Description

Hello All ~! I shot this Sunday around 4pm about 3 miles from my home in Placerita Canyon . People were standing around worried about losing their homes and the whole thing seemed unreal to me. I drove as close as the fire dept would allow me to try and capture this fire blazing up on the mountain. I was trying to get a good position between the trees to shoot and suddenly there was this sweet young Donkey who seemed to be curious about all the fire trucks and noise. It reminded me sadly of all the Animals caught in the fire . I believe this fire started in Sylmar, Ca where hundreds lost their homes (almost 500 gone) in Oak ridge mobile home park ( about 10 miles from my house) A good friend of my Mom's ( Dorthy )used to live there and I have been in that park to visit many times. Drove by it on Sunday (was still smoking and had to view it from the fwy as it was a crime scene ) That upscale mobile home park looked like something right out of a Steven King nightmare! You can see pictures of the loss here: http://www.boston.com/bigpicture/2008/11/california_wildfires_yet_again.html The local news said the recent firestorms in southern California this week have been the most devastating since 1961~! I think they finally got it put out now just hard to breathe outside . Played with this in PSP a little today. I did get the donkey in this scene with the fiery mountains as seen here but blended two side by side captures for in a better view of the blazing fire . Not happy about the blown sky in this shot but thought the fire was an awesome scene. Only had minutes to shoot this as the FD and police were clearing the area so fire trucks could come in - !. Strange how natures fury can sometimes be terrifying & beautiful all at the same time . My heart goes out to all the people who lost their homes. I have two real sick daughters right now - will try and get caught up on comments as ASAP but thought I would share this with you today. Thanks for all your time and comments! Love to all , ((( BIG HUGS ))) ~ Kimmers ♥ :O)

What a terrific capture Kimmers, but also very sad and tragic. I hope the winds stop so that they can contain all these fires. Be safe.

So sad, I have family all over the area there. I hope everyone including youself, stays safe. I saw a newspaper USA today I believe with Arnold (Schwarzenegger)on the front and he was quoted as saying "We'll be back!" so got to go with the spirit of the people there and say how true. Wonderful photo Kim.

That looks like it would be a beautiful are when no fire is raging, I shudder every time I hear about big fires like this one. My heart goes out to all the folks who have lost so much. An excellent capture of the scene, Hope you kids get better soon. My grandbabies are ill and today their mommy was signed into the hospital for various test to see what is hurting her,

Worst image you have ever posted. The capture is perfect as always but the content I hate. The color and the way you have it framed is wonderful but fires make me sad for all the wildlife!
