Description

Hello All ~! I shot this Sunday around 4pm about 3 miles from my home in Placerita Canyon . People were standing around worried about losing their homes and the whole thing seemed unreal to me. I drove as close as the fire dept would allow me to try and capture this fire blazing up on the mountain. I was trying to get a good position between the trees to shoot and suddenly there was this sweet young Donkey who seemed to be curious about all the fire trucks and noise. It reminded me sadly of all the Animals caught in the fire . I believe this fire started in Sylmar, Ca where hundreds lost their homes (almost 500 gone) in Oak ridge mobile home park ( about 10 miles from my house) A good friend of my Mom's ( Dorthy )used to live there and I have been in that park to visit many times. Drove by it on Sunday (was still smoking and had to view it from the fwy as it was a crime scene ) That upscale mobile home park looked like something right out of a Steven King nightmare! You can see pictures of the loss here: http://www.boston.com/bigpicture/2008/11/california_wildfires_yet_again.html The local news said the recent firestorms in southern California this week have been the most devastating since 1961~! I think they finally got it put out now just hard to breathe outside . Played with this in PSP a little today. I did get the donkey in this scene with the fiery mountains as seen here but blended two side by side captures for in a better view of the blazing fire . Not happy about the blown sky in this shot but thought the fire was an awesome scene. Only had minutes to shoot this as the FD and police were clearing the area so fire trucks could come in - !. Strange how natures fury can sometimes be terrifying & beautiful all at the same time . My heart goes out to all the people who lost their homes. I have two real sick daughters right now - will try and get caught up on comments as ASAP but thought I would share this with you today. Thanks for all your time and comments! Love to all , ((( BIG HUGS ))) ~ Kimmers ♥ :O)

I used to live in L.A. and that is a scary place to be. At least you were saying,"isn't that interesting," instead of , "Oh my Gawd, we gotta get outta here!!!" Here's hoping the fires all miss you. Stash

My heart and thoughts are with all those in the line of the fires and who are threatened by loss. We know this feeling well up here in this end of the state too and thankfully, disaster seems to bring out the best in neighbors. Great shot. Stunning thoughts conjured.

These fires moved very quickly so you were lucky to get this capture. I'm glad that you and your family are safe as it would be so devestating to watch your home go up in flames. I hope your girls get better soon. Very dramatic capture.

Cool capture of the conflagration, Kimmie! Glad it didn't get any closer to your home. The local television networks were asking for people to send in their dramatic still and video shots so they could show them on TV. I went outside yesterday to sweep up the ashes in my patio but started to cough so I went back inside because there was still smoke and ash in the air.

Oh Kimmers ! what an amazing shot you got of that fire. The fires in Southern California are really scary to me. I was living in the Oakland/Berkeley hills when the Oakland Hills fire scorched everything and 4500 homes were burned down in about an hour and a half, in 1991. Scary stuff. I was kind of wondering if you lived near the current fires. Glad you are ok. I hope that they are getting these fires under control now. We don't get extensive coverage in Santa Fe of anything but Albuquerque news, so I never really know. Sorry your daughters are sick. Hugs and kisses my friend. Hope all gets back to normal soon !!!

A beautiful and powerful capture. Living in Louisiana, I know first hand the power of mother nature and the sadness she can bring. You did a wonderful job,of capturing the beauty and damage a fire can bring. Hope your daughters feel better soon. :)

I have experienced this many times in Southern Oregon and in fact was once evacuated because of the mountain that was in full blown fire in front of my house. It is very scary.. very scary when you think you are going to loose your home and everything you've accumulated throughout your life. Excellent shot Kimmers and I pray God looks over them.

You got a great shot here but i'm sure it was very distressing to have the fire so close. When we lived in Calif, in Valinda, we had a fire on the mountainside by our home and it was an awful sight. Luckily they got it out and I'm very happy to hear your home is safe, too. Miss you. CC

I love how the donkey is at the edge of the photo not in smack right in the centre of it ... the fire is fascinating ... because it is a powerful thing created by nature (yes yes, its mankind too but its not 'chemical-like' ... its nature, fire, earth, water etc) ... we really have to respect fire. Sadly enough - this reminds me that bushfire summer is going to be here soon - Australia is prone to a lot of bushfires in summer due to hot winds or just some idiots who do not police their cigarettes or barbeques or of course, seeing what it is like to have it happen ... And lastly of all - wishing your daughters a speedy recovery - its never fun being sick (unless its a good way to get out of school hehe!!!!!) ... and happy thanksgiving! :)

incredible shot! the donkey is like a bonus "candy sprinkle on top", how funny. but then how not funny too. [I've always thought the renderosity galleries should include a "Photojournalism" Genre, this would be one - do you think that fits better than "Landscape"?]

Quite a weekend. Saturday night (sunday morning) about 330 am, we were coming home and we could see the flames, from the Chino Hills fire, lighting up the night sky. It was crazy. My daughter had been visiting a friend in Bellflower and ash was raining from the sky there. And, of course the smell of smoke is everywhere~ I hope your home and family continue to remain safe during the hot, dry fire season~

Beautiful capture of this destructive force. I hope it stays away from your home. There has been quite a bit more fire activity in your area this past year or so.
