Description

Well, after my little foray into 'microbe' art, I thought I'd stop freaking you all out and post another of my bamboos. I did this a month ago when a friend was throwing out an incredibly beautiful piece of old watercolor paper. I screamed: "Wait! Wait!" I took the paper and did this dry brush bamboo. It's just a bamboo with a gritty brush...but it symbolizes endurance, so it seemed fitting for the season & the world (and for getting over being sick too). I tried to get some "zen" brushwork: If you look full-view, you'll see my little attempts...

Thanks again for all your wishes, and for stopping by my gallery these last weeks: Know that it's all truly appreciated. I really mean that.
Have a fine fall day! Mark

It is truly magnificent Mark and you have turned what someone considered trash into a treasure. I have never seen one done in this style with a gritty brush before and I Love it.

Sublime brushwork and composition,Mark. You can really sense the movement of the wind, and the bamboo's resistance to it. Take care my friend.

The strokes are astounding and brisk...The composition itself is utterly fantastic. I like this as much as I like your microbe series, but for me, there isn't too much of a difference between living things. What I like the most about this piece is the manner in which you've preserved the texture of the paper in your capture of it for posting here. The strokes are what really draw me in, though, especially when I see them at full zoom; from the strokes alone, I can virtually see (or at least imagine) the way you held the brush, the posture you assumed, and even the state of mind you allowed yourself into. In short, this is fantastic and evocative work that will linger with me for quite some time. And maybe it's the Zen or Shinto references here, but the whole image also strikes me in the same manner as a classical haiku; both visual information and profound emotion are conveyed crisply and cleanly, and well...That is a hard thing to pull off and you've done so brilliantly.

This is gorgeous. I'm so glad that you saved the watercolor paper. The bamboo plant is such a fitting piece to create on this piece of parchment. The bamboo plant is a renewable resource and you have renewed the life of the paper that you saved. Excellent work all around.
