Description

Wanted to imitate an old etching, so sat down and tried to create a 200 year old rose. The scratchiness & breaks were all drawn, as is the excess black (to imitate wear & tear). By all means, I claim no accuracy (!) but these projects make one respect other artists greatly because you walk in their shoes every step of the way... So: I give you 1) the "etched-green" version 2) the original black, and 3) a close-up of the leaves so you can see my modest attempts at etching-lines. Full-View's a lot bigger (& shows better detail).

Such a lovely old rose and you really made a great, impressing job imitating an old etching. It really looks like that. Makes me think about an old etching I have. It is made the same way. Oh and I have another one. Yes I have 2. Do you use ink first and paint after?

Wonderful work Mark, I love seeing the different views, very impressive. Such a talent to be able to draw like this, I always wished I could, but my roses never even came close to this, I can draw a pretty mean (and simple) daisy though LOL.. Have a lovely weekend as well.

I certainly appreciate a drawing like this for many reasons. My art instructor had me do drawings but I could never press hard enough for his taste! You make this look so effortless! They each have their own charm and close-up makes all the difference.

I must say that I wish I could actually draw...there's a quality to hand drawn artwork that is just impossible (so far) to capture via a purely electronic medium. In terms of this image, it's absolutely spot on. I love the "imperfections" resulting from scratches, ink globbed here and there, and all of the other details that you've included. It does, indeed, have the emotional feeling of an old etching, something I'm immensely interested in now, especially since aged artwork is at the forefront of my mind. In short, this is fantastic. I love it.

I very much agree with Chipka here, and I wish (sometimes) I still had the urge for etchings, since I learned it for over 3 years. Instead of that I enjoy your pen and ink work, and admire your skill, this is lovely work. Great with the enlarged rose.

Very well done, drawing is NOT my forte at all and I truly appreciate what others can do with pen and ink, or other media--beautiful!!

Mark this is simply incredible and one of my all time favorites. The detailing here is so breathtaking and the amount of care and time involved in these is easily seen.
