Hi, I'm Marilyn. Â I've been posting here on RR for a few years now and thought it was time to update my profile. Â It's been wonderful learning so much from the amazingly talented people here. Â I've had the chance to meet many in person and some have become great and good friends. Â Starting with a Kodak Brownie camera when I was about 7 or 8, moving up to Instamatics, Polaroids, then the Pentax K1000 that really got me on the way, I've been looking at the world thru a lens for a long time. Â Got the bug honestly; my dad was a photographer and gave me the gene!! Â Digital changed the world and I jumped in with both feet. Â You would've gone thru 100's of rolls of film in one day the way we can shoot and delete all day long. Â Progess...it can be awesome sometimes.
At any rate, RR rocks, the talent is over the top and I'm just gonna keep on shooting!!
Thanks for looking and keep those cameras rollin'!!
peace.....marilyn

The keyboard player I am can only be charmed by this excellent tribute to this wonderful instrument. Superb capture!

With Humphrey Bogart no where to be seen... Is that a mirrored image or a type of piano keyboard totalling 176 keys I've never seen before? Stranger things have been created.

Excellent shot! I didn't notice the reflection of the fringed pillow the first time I looked at this. Nice touch! :)

another fine capture of the piano...you've caught 3 things essential to the old 'black beast': You've caught the keys in their entirety, all 88, giving us the full sweep (yes!); you've caught the white keys with a saturated white so that the spaces between are almost invisible (it appears to be a solid sheet on much of the right side, which is how they feel sometimes when a pianist approaches them); and you caught the red-felt in back of the keys, a wonderful band of red against a sea of b&w—your eye caught it and didn't obscure it: Great. (It's there to keep the keys from hitting the wood and 'clicking' while you play.) And you caught the mirrored backdrop with edges barely visible, as if the mirror goes on forever. All intuitive choices very sensitive to the instrument...You know to those of us who've played all our lives, the very sight of those keys is like a call—it calls someplace deep in us, the way the camera does to you or brushes & paints to a painter; and you've done 2 knowing shots of a grand now where you've captured that call & its mysteries & sweep & jewel-like presence. A very loving job, Marilyn. as time goes by...

Oooh, I like this a lot. Of course if I sit down at a piano, I can't even peck out Chopsticks...oh well. I love the use of light in this image, the reflections, the contrasts, the POV...everything is just spot on, and I especially love the casual focus on the red "anti clatter" felt at the upper border of the keys...that particular bit of red adds an extra dimension to this already perfectly seen piece of work.
