Xeno-Wook Invasion Series: - - Xeno-Wook [Something Dark is Coming] - - Xeno-Wook Invasion of L19 [Profile] This is the second of 3 pieces I've done for RedDragon Ripper, for his Xeno-Wook request. For this scene, originally intended for the Datapad and it's entry I built a scene around it. I was going for a moody lonely foreboding feel, hence the single cabinet light. I made this officer's quarters populated by typical soldier's gear and after hours off-duty effects. The Colonel, Major, or Lieutenant has just received this report for their new mission deployment, and its likely late at night. Notice the clean & empty sink - the telltale sign of a person who rarely spends any time making use of the quarters aboard the fleet starship his squad or platoon's stationed on. Notes: 100% Carrara Render, No postwork save signature added to final render. Even the cigarette smoke trail and Caustics lighting from the glass of alcohol and glass ashtray is part of the original render. It could be wine, or probably hard liquor. Also used some custom shaders in lieu of the original textures: on the Flask, sink & faucet, sheathed knife, berret, glass & liquor content, glass ashtray, datapad, glasses & lens, and of course the datapad screen. Models: Datapad - unknown, DLL-44 by Dodger, Stylus by Ellpro, Beret by HT3D, Level 19 by Stonemason, GFSC by Stonemason, SFCS II by Davorama, Alien Drone by Antares (Franz Muenz) & converted by Virus I'd like to take a moment and talk about the making of this scene. Sometimes I like to listen to music of similar moods as to what I'm trying to establish in the scene. For this particular piece I was influenced by Battlestar Galactica - Season 2 episodes 10 - 12 (Pegasus, Resurrection Ship parts 1 & 2). If you can remember, Adama was in the CIC, the Battlestar was standing off against the Pegasus. It was a dark and moody scene, full of uncertainty. In the background the music track titled "Something Dark is Coming" , a lengthly musical piece matching the tone of the scene. Slow, dark, sad, foreboding, ominous, foreshadowing darkness is about to come. Its primarily a bass guitar strumming a few low notes with a rhythm guitar (or maybe its a rhythm guitar taking a backseat to the main melody that the lead guitar is playing. Theres a bit of instrumental (stringed - violins and cello) and percussion). Anyways its IMHO its probably one of my favourite songs, beautifully haunting and lonely. I kept on playing this track as I worked on the scene, with plenty of test renders. I was hoping to communicate the same sense of mood. You'll notice a vaguely familiar picture window on the datapad screen atop the counter. Thats the same [Profile] picture, which came about as a new camera angle in the full scene which I required a camera feed for the datapad prop and the report screen which I made in photoshop. So basically a render with postwork for a prop within another render. This scene was again a several of Carrara effect firsts for me. Most notable was using a tube light like an under the cabinet fluorescent lamp in lieu of a typical desk lamp; kinda like emergency red bridge backup lighting, but yellow instead. Then there was the task of learning to setting up caustics and liquid. The glass ashtray was one of Carrara's included shaders. The alcoholic beverage I borrowed the calm water shader and altered it to look like a peach liquor type beverage, or a peach flavored / colored hard liquor instead of the usual whiskey or brandy. I really wanted the light to play through the 2 glass props and I think I achieved that. I'm impressed with the lighting and soft shadows in the scene how it plays off the props and the backwall. Thanks for viewing I hope you enjoyed this gallery entry, comments and critique always appreciated. Stay tuned, I will be posting a closeup of the datapad after this.

Thankyou :) I guess somebody likes this pic besides myself ;) Judging by the low view numbers on this pic, I realize its not the most striking scene, even movies have their slow moments. I probably had known it as I was working on it, but I wanted to do it anyways, and try out those effects, as well as use the datapad as a scene prop to see how it looked other than upclose. Interestingly, even with a low number of views it gives me an idea to try out, make a new addition to this series, a different camera angle, build and show the room more. Let this scene become part of the background. I just need some time to assemble the room. The Datapad closeup is next, will upload soon as the 24hr limit ends in an hour or two.

I wouldn't worry about the views, some you win, some you lose. Like you say even movies have their slow moments.

Aww thanks guys ;) Your right Biffowitz, and it really boils down to personal taste. The community experience here by far has a positive atmosphere. Everything that D.A wasn't. Even getting less views or comments is still good for pics like these couple, it helps give me a feel for improving what sells a picture. Compared to D.A, I only got 1 or 2 comments if your totalled all 4 pics in the Xeno series combined. I'll have to see how soon I can build a bigger scene around this kitchenette. Guess that'll depend all what I have onhand and what I might have to purchase yet.

Well, one thing I've noticed, if it doesn't have big boobs, people generally don't look at it, rendo is really weird that way.
