[Please click on image for full size] Xeno-Wook Invasion Series: - - Xeno-Wook [Something Dark is Coming] - Xeno-Wook [Report] - Xeno-Wook Invasion of L19 [Profile] Caption: Last Transmission from Woo'Shrrruuhk Research Facility, in Kashyyyk's Northern Forest Continent. A Haz-Mat SpecOps team is being sent to investigate... Notes: This image was intended as an RPG 'gaming prop', which the GM (Game Master) shows to the players as he reads it out to them. The ingame prop use helps the players visualize whats being set before them in the gaming world. Its one thing to hear the GM say theirs a datapad infront of them, or handed a piece of notepaper with something written on it. The inspiration came from Star Wars Roleplaying d6 by West End Games books often had page sized datapads with any sort of information on them, meant for the GM and the players to see and read. For example, the group of players may be playing as a band of Rebel SpecOps during the Rebelion, and the GM would handle the NPC's (Non player characters) such as the Colonel handing out the mission briefing orders. The GM could draw up maps and layout plans, and flip the book open to a particular page with a datapad featuring specific mission details. For the Xeno-Wook request, I came up with similar mock-up information - a synopsis of the situation, a location site, last contact details, a some authentic looking security details, even a inscreen video picture that looked like a holographic camera recording. And of course, the page layout, buttons, scroll bar, etc to make it look like a star wars datapad with a classified data document open. The Datapad screen was a multi-step process. I needed to find a datapad prop. Originally I was looking for a TNG styled prop with a big enough display screen but I lucked out finding a TOS one instead. The prop included a blank template from which to start with. First making a new camera angle render within the original Xeno-Wook corridor scene - a closeup of the Xeno-Wook, then brought into photoshop, where my custom Holo-Vid camera Scan-Lines layer effect were added. On the next dozen layers, the rest of the graphics, design, and text was added. Then the screen image was brought back into Carrara where I loaded the datapad, then the screen texture for the screen display image. Then a whole new scene was built around the datapad, to create someone's living space / personal quarters. Most likely belonging to a Colonel, Major, Lieutenant, or Sargent . This image was the close-up of the datapad. So essentially, the very original corridor scene was used a second time around as an image source to be used as a texture for a prop. A program like Carrara becomes its own render-aid tool. I like this concept and may visit it again sometime as the ideas come up. It was also a good learning process, something entirely new that I've never done before. And I learnt a few lessons along the way, the resulting image didn't look this way by default. Some shader channel tweaking was needed for the display screen to make it look backlit. Best of all, no postwork save for the signature added was done to this final render, while ironically was built around the basis of a post-worked render image. Thanks for viewing I hope you enjoyed this gallery entry, comments and critique always appreciated. DOn't worry, if this image doesn't grab your interest or attention, next image after this will be the original Xeno-Wook corridor scene. The hunter finding new prey... Stay tuned!
