Description

This ceramic box belonged to my great-grandmother (my mother's mother's mother). I remember it sat on her dresser when I was a child, and it held her safety pins. When my great-grandmother died, my grandmother inherited the box. She kept it on her dresser for years and years, and it held her safety pins. My grandmother died a couple years back, and one of the things I inherited from her was this ceramic box. It sits on my dresser and holds my safety pins, my grandmother's safety pins, and undoubtedly some of my great-grandmother's safety pins. It's nice to have such a thing in my home, something that reminds me, connects me, to the women in my family who did ordinary things, lived ordinary lives, and needed safety pins from time to time. When I was setting up my low light session, this was one of the first things I thought of to shoot.

I saw this box right away and I love it. But this makes it glow and the light on the safety pins is wonderful. I have things from both my grandmothers and they are so special; I never got to know my great grandmothers.

This really is warm and comforting. The light really brings that home. I have a small ceramic box too that has been passed down... mine has always held a needle, small spool of thread, thimble and threader. :-)

It looks quite delicate, marvellous it survives with both memories and its body intact! A beautiful image, I'd quite like to see it fully lit as well, being a potter!

You are so lucky to have such a precious item. As the first born to a pair of emigrants to South Africa, my mother lost out on any heirlooms. Maybe in a couple of generations to come, something which I have will be treasured as such! Lovely capture.

Great shot, good light! My grandma had a wooden box that she was using it for the same thing as you do, and it was made and brought from Vienna in the 19th century... It had graved in "Grusse aus Wien" - Greetings from Vienna.
