Description

There are many ways to learn new things! This is a lesson in what can happen when you use an unfamiliar camera. When Marilyn and I went to my sister-in-law's place over Thanksgiving weekend, I forgot my camera. * gasp! * I know, I know ... but we were in a rush, and I just walked out of the house without it. So I borrowed Marilyn's camera to take some pictures. Most of them came out a bit on the blurry side, and some of them more than a bit! Now I would tell you that I don't know much about photography. I consider myself to be more of an artist than a photographer, since I know very little about the technical side of taking photographs. What I learned in using an unfamiliar camera is that I actually know more than I think I do! If I'd taken those shots with my own camera, I would have come away with more good shots. I must have learned, over time, what will work and what won't when I point my camera at something. I took pictures at Cindy's place with Marilyn's camera the same way I would have with my own camera, and I got a different result. Clearly, it's not the camera. If you look at Marilyn's work, you'll see that her camera works just fine! LOL! It's just the nut behind the wheel that needs adjusting. :) And THAT, my friends, is the long version to tell you why this shot is a little blurry. I did what I could with it, and this is the best I could come up with. Since I consider my gallery to be an overview of my learning curve, I'm posting this shot as part of what I've learned. Maybe one day I'll shoot this same image with my own camera, and see what happens.

I like it...but maybe I too have built in blurry...because it looks good to me:) The texture and color are very earthy. Thinking about it, the only times I've ever seen one of these is in a National Geographic article when divers are bringing some of these up from some long forgotten ship wreck off the coast of Greece or somewhere else in the Med. So, well done! Bill

Tara, I have my reading glass on so if this capture is blurry I should see it, but I don't. I see noise thou but it is because a high ISO (800) Honestly for this Amphora picture is quet suitable. I am sucker for old pots and wessels specialy forms what you have here. Fabulous capture with a long shadow.

Lol...Tara this is a great capture. Having played golf for many years I learned the Yips!! For those that don't know what the Yips are let me describe it as the shakes when putting. I have taken this learned ability and brought it to my photography...causing camera movement everytime I click the shuttter giving a blurring effect on my pictures. Thats my story and I'm sticking to it!!!!!

I like this; the composition and colors are great, and I don't see any "blur" either. Maybe if you're not happy with it you should play with some filters and really "art" it up?

what you have captured is an earthy feel for the subject and backdrop with mega texture that can almost feel through the photo. Am particularly drawn to the shadow made by the vessel.

Great lighting, I know excactly what you mean, funy enough, I can never play another persons guitars or keyboards as well as my own, I have hit more bum notes on different pianos on pieces I play with an alarming frequnecy...When I get home I can play the same piece perfectly, I think one gets a etherial feel for ones own equipment?...All that said, this looks sharp to me, but my eyes are knackered anyhow :)...A neat trick in photoshop. duplicate the image, and select filter/other/high pass, use a setting of around 1 or 2 for a large resolution image, after the filter, set that layers blending mode to soft light.

Wow, my camera's gonna be famous!! I know about the nut behind the wheel (being that nut more often than not) and I also know that this camera is way smarter than I am!! That's why I love the guys at my local camera shop, they bail me out over and over and I learn something every single time!! Yes, I have a manual, but, well, these guys are cuter than it is!! BTW, I remember watching you in front of this piece--and if it's blurry I sure can't see it, you caught it well and turned it into a wonderful shot.
