Hi, I'm Marilyn. Â I've been posting here on RR for a few years now and thought it was time to update my profile. Â It's been wonderful learning so much from the amazingly talented people here. Â I've had the chance to meet many in person and some have become great and good friends. Â Starting with a Kodak Brownie camera when I was about 7 or 8, moving up to Instamatics, Polaroids, then the Pentax K1000 that really got me on the way, I've been looking at the world thru a lens for a long time. Â Got the bug honestly; my dad was a photographer and gave me the gene!! Â Digital changed the world and I jumped in with both feet. Â You would've gone thru 100's of rolls of film in one day the way we can shoot and delete all day long. Â Progess...it can be awesome sometimes.
At any rate, RR rocks, the talent is over the top and I'm just gonna keep on shooting!!
Thanks for looking and keep those cameras rollin'!!
peace.....marilyn

Hey, these are so cool! I bought a big pot of this split rock cactus (actually a succulent as you say) and promptly, within a month, killed them dead. Dead. Dead. I sure wish I could have kept them going long enough to see them bloom! I had no idea they were so lovely! I don't kill every cactus or succulent I get. To my amazement, I looked at my Christmas cactus today that was in such poor shape after babying it all summer and the winter cold seems to have energized it. It's now looking great as are the column cacti and various barrel cacti. I would have bet money that the overnight freezes we've had lately would have turned them to mush.

Superb! I've several different ones of these in the greenhouse (Lithops, I think), and never thought to take pics of them.

wow, didn't realize they were the same plant until I read your descr! A really nice juxtaposition ("yes, plants actually move, children!"—my 3d Grade teacher). But what I love even more is that both shots look like some exotic sushi feast: The shapes are succulent & edible, and they make a wonderful set of contrasts. The spindly leaves look like Japanese cabbage, and the whole could pass for one of those beautiful Japanese gardens where contrast is so important. Caught with an eye for real contrast & opulence. (I want to eat these, even though they're probably poisonous...) Nice work!
