Description

A Closer view of this Metal chain Sculpture. Trafford Park Manchester. Only yards from Old Trafford Football Ground (Manchester United FC) The "Park" built on the south side of the Manchester Ship Canal occupying 3,000 acres was the first planned built Industrial estate in the world and is still the largest in Europe. It was an important supplier of materials during the First and Second World Wars, and produced the Rolls Royce Merlin engines used to power both the Spitfire and the Lancaster. At its peak in 1945 an estimated 75,000 were employed at the park. Over the years many changes took place and in the 60's employment began to decline. However there has been a massive regeneration programme since the 80's and today Trafford park still employs 35,000 people.

Alan, this is a super shot. It appears the clouds parted just for you. The POV is exactly right to show off this massive sculpture inspired no doubt by the industrial park you've described so well in your notes. Popping this into my favs... Bill

You forgot to mention that this was also the Port of Manchester Alan, at one time large ships came up the Manchester Ship Canal to discharge tier cargo at Salford Docks, this sculpture is just where the main dock gates where. It went into decline as a port and most of it as now become designer housing on a large level as well as shopping malls. Excellent capture mate. Bravo!!!!!!
