Description

I went out to the beach yesterday to see for myself what had happened to the dunes. I'd read that the huge surf Christmas Day had wiped out about 1000' of them. These fotos don't really show the magnitude of how it affected the pasture land that was on the other side. The fences are buried in sand, the pastures were flooded up to 3 or 4 feet deep in sea water, and there a huge logs as far as the eye can see. I did all my walking on the east side of the dunes, away from the ocean because it was the only way to really see and understand what had occurred. At one point, I was on the very edge of the sand, and I could feel it moving under my feet. I realized I needed to NOT be there, for it could give way at any time and I didn't want to find out what would happen. The bottom two fotos are the same place, one I posted the other day. Mother Nature rules!!

Have to agree with Ronnie, she can be very rough in her justice can Mother Nature, if she thinks it's hers nothing will stop her claiming it. It looks like something from 'The Day After Tomorrow', she can be both cruel and kind just depends on her whim I suppose. Excellent presentation Marylin, good comparison shots. Bravo!!!!!

Interesting collage you've posted in re various spots on the beach, M. Light years different than Huntington Beach. And, it's not prudent to mess with Mother Nature.

Living on or near a barrier island for many years, I understand fully well what happens when the "tide turns" - or should I say, the water patterns change. The island changes. dunes come and go. These are great shots. They do tell the story...but its not over yet and probably never will be. :-)

Mother Nature can be destructive and constructive at the same time. Wonder what she had in mind here. Great photo collection of her power.

yeah, it is amazing to see all the things that that water did. Brooding lighting & lots of scruffy brush. And the lower two really do bring the point home: I really liked the grasses from your previous upload, and here you show them knocked up and pretty much knocked out. Well you may not get snow, but you have enough weather out there to make up for it. A fine collage, and another piece of the vast-feeling place you live in. I'm really on a journey with these, they're eye-opening & I'm very appreciative that you've posted them all...

Between the surf and volcanos...you are living in a very active part of this country! Great collage and notes to tell us what's going on. Bill
