Description

Here's one side of the barn. It's open; these are part of the supports. You're looking north, and off in the distance is yet another barn, it's another 1/4 mile or so. You can see how that big surf changed the landscape. A scant two weeks ago, this was all green pasture land; now it's covered in sand. What's also interesting is that there's lots of evidence that cattle have been here recently; I came close to stepping in that evidence more than once!! Both these barns at one time stood alone; time, weather, water and life have taken over.

Fine perspective and textured effects, especially with the weathered wood, in this pic, Marilyn. I never heard of an open-air barn before.

Looks like a shelter for feeding...probably closed of the windward side which in this case is the west side...if I've got my bearings correct. The weathered, textured wood makes this very interesting. Some rancher must be unhappy over this change. Bill

I do believe, cows could live on the moon. I've seen them in the best and the worst conditions. If there they know where food is and they are hungry, they'll swim the angry seas. LOL Wonderful view.

Very similar to a dutch barn, strange that goodoleboy hasn't heard of an open barn before, we have loads over here in the UK. Design styles range from fixed roof to adjustable roof; some dutch barns have honeycombed brick walls which allow for ventilation and serve a decorative function as well. Still other British dutch barns may be found with no walls at all, much like American pole barns. Info from Wikipedia. Excellent capture Marylin. Bravo!!!!!

The timbering and supports look well built. No wonder it has stood the tests of time and Nature.

whooo, another gritty textured shot of this wonderful barn...your detailing allows the grain of the decayed wood to sing, and even the fractured shingles (or top-boards, whatever they are) to shimmer quietly in the light. And the underside is wonderfully dark & messy & mysterious, as all undersides of houses should be. The landscape is indeed vanquished, and the patches of parched green—and all that dried brown—are perfect for this now-abandoned scene. (And the background is suitably distant & bleak...) I've always adored the music of decay, because it's life waiting for the next wave; and this picture is very alive underneath all the vanquished land. I think this is beautiful.
