Description

A scene from the sandy cliffs overlooking a beach on the eastern tip of Long Island, New York. Wind, rain and the sea take their daily toll on the terrain. Beach erosion is a constant concern of those responsible for maintaining the beautiful Atlantic beaches and recreation areas here. But then again, these beaches have been here a long, long time and probably have a bright, although changing future. Thanks for all your comments and favs. Your support is always much appreciated. Bill Give it a zoom-in...worth a click :)

Stunning place Bill. I can see that an upset Atlantic can play havoc with the beaches and especially this particular spot. Lovely nonetheless!!! :)

Beautiful image and a reminder of the accumulation of more subtle impacts causing major changes over time. This area was once part of a "vast maritime forest" that protected the coastline. Almost impossible to imagine it now. So very little of it is left. It didn't really happen before our eyes, because we were off trying to figure out where toast comes from.

Wonderful capture! We've got quite a bit of this sort of thing going on here right now ... lots of mud moving around!

Bill, you did great here. I feel the urge to sit on my butt and take the slide down that bumpy crease - but then, as I often have to face later when I do impulsive things - how the heck to I get back where I started? I'm not much on climbing but I can sure slide down with grace. :-)

A great capture and POV, part of our huge granite boulder sea defence (about 40ft of it) was washed away last January by the tide it was so rough and high. When the sea broke the wall it ended up half way up a number of roads in town and flooded many businesses & homes. It had never happended before. It just shows the changes in our environment.

Awesome shot, Bill! Lovely area, it reminds me the sandy cliffs I was climbing in my childhood, the only difference is there was a river, not the ocean!

A definite sensation of depth, bordering on vertigo, and excellent POV, light/shadow, sharp clarity, colors, composition and textures in this one, Bill! Needless to say, watch your step.

Lovely pov and view, Bill. Looks like there is not much room for strolling on that beach with the water coming right to your path!

Great capture Bill. Excellent detail and color, especially in zoom. I would have guessed California. I will post another 2 frames of Carlsbad!

A beautiful picture and fine example of erosion of the cliff-side. as to how well nature handles the changes to this is unfortunately up to us! So, I don't hold much hope up for it. Our (UK) Suffolk coast line as been eroded away to such a state where whole villages have collapsed into the sea! But all the same, a love picture that demands to be seen full size so you can see the details, Rob.
