Description


Take an outfit called XtaSy, a charaacter called Tosha, add a bad pun, and that explains the title. Not a lot of reason behind the image itself - just a case of trying to fit the clothing neatly to the (rather curvy) figure, light it to my satisfaction, and render it *big*. After seemingly endless lighting variations, I ended up with a basic key/fill/backlight combination. Only one light casting shadows, and that's just a basic raytraced light (OK, so it's using ambient occlusion). The backdrop is the drapes from Topmodel Kit 2. Uh, that's about it. When viewed at full size, there's some grain visible in the hair shadows. Alas, the normal techniques for eliminating this unavailable, since the image, in addition to being huge, was rendered with everything turned up full. Unless you're really messing around with mirrors, turning reflections all of the way up to 12 doesn't incur any penalty over the "normal" maximum of 4 and handles cases that 4 might miss. Of course, if you're doing a scene with lots of mirrors, you deserve what you get, and the chances are that even 12 isn't going to result in black spots due to "overbounced" rays. Normally, increasing samples/pixel can eliminate shadow "grain" due to undersampling when the incredibly thin hair just happens to be the point the ray is going through. In theory, shooting 36 rays to get that same pixel should result in the hair not causing such an obvious problem. However, when you render big enough, those shadows become relatively thick again - thick enough to show up again and you can't oversample to eliminate the problem. It's not too visible at full size at least, and only becomes visible when you zoom in. That'll also show the Photoshop touch up - minor poke-through incidents, mainly. Enjoy, I hope.

Pretty picture. Easy way to control grain is to take same picture with detailed and undetailed texturing and to match for best result.
