Description

This is for my friend Larry (NetWorthy) who does wonderful work in Daz. Larry has a gift for creating images and magnificent stories to go with them. My favorite story Larry created is (Misty The Baby Dragon) In it he shows how he can touch your heart through his work. Most important for me is Larry has always been a real friend to my family and always checking on my sister. He shared with me this fantastic memory of when he was a boy living near Springfield Illinois. They lived near old abandoned mines and the rubble from them had built up over the years making huge hills seventy feet high. When it snowed the hills provided Larry and his friends a great place to go sledding, even if the hills were a bit rough because of all the rocks. This story is about one day when they had a fantastic new adventure and I hope you enjoy it. Down Hill Racers: It was a really cold day and Larry and his brother Rick headed to the hills to meet their friends and go sledding. While the kids were playing they found a hood from a old car half buried in the snow. The kids dug it out and thought it would be great to use it as a sled. Larry and nearly 14 kids worked so hard to drag it up the hill. Once at the top all the kids climbed on board and a older boy gave them a shove to get them started. Down the bumpy hill they soared, going faster and faster. Soon Larry saw Mick fall off and then his friend Butch too. Evey time they hit a bump another kid would go flying off of their sled. By the time they got to the bottom only Larry, Mike, Emma, Glory and her puppy were left. They were still going fast as their sled plowed into a group of small trees finally ending their journey. Larry and his friends laughed so hard and they rode down the hill two more times that day. Hope it brought smiles. whoa Dave, this is magical! First, the story's a riot—one we can all relate to. Second, this feels different from some of your pieces, because you used such fairy-tale colors and images: It feels like a wonderful dream. The flat green—devoid of your usual sensitive detailing—is luminous and out of a folktale; the mounds in the background are pure fantasy (lovely); and the snowflakes are openly childlike visions and cutouts and magic ornaments...lovely stuff! As for the children, it's your usual cornucopia of painstaking natural detail: The green gloves on one of the boy's shoulders & the girl's tilted cry behind; the ruffles in the boy's shirt (don't know if that's Larry or Mike! Sorry!), and a really detailed job on his jeans; the puppy playing with the other boy's shoes; the look of surprise on the girl's face (you even got nice detailing on her blouse, the little "v"); and that kid right behind the car-hood, sliding on the ground while those imaginary stars engulf him! (Even nice details on the splaying of his legs.) You never let down in all these human details, yet the whole is a luminous fairy tale, and it's magic and a lot of fun; the car-hood looks like a flying carpet (!), and the child with the snowman—in background—is magically placed. Ya did it again, kid! Wonderful work! Thanks for bringing our childhoods alive once more...

Masterful work, Dave. Great and very funny story...especially the comic factor.. When they fall of, one by one. #:o) A splendid dedication for Larry. He is a fantastic guy. I really like his "Misty", childrens book project and illustrations. You always manage to get the human factor, deeply into your.. That makes it unique. Love the expressions on the kids faces.. really good and realistic. It's a great childhood memory, too. I remember as a kid, that we used plastic bags, instead of a car hood. Believe me..that really hurts on a bumpy terrain. #;oD But you can go really fast on a plastic bag #;o)
