Description

Second post from the northern edge of Lake Itasca, located in north central Minnesota. That's the lake in the background, and in the foreground what appears to be a drainage ditch is actually the infancy of the Mississippi River. The place where the lake water spills over some rocks at its northern edge, quite close to this vantage point, is where the river actually begins. For that view and the story behind it, see my previous post, "Birth of the Mississippi". It's an amazing place. From such humble origins. . . marshall

And so the journey of a thousand miles begins... I suppose the stream and lake are frozen solid now. Imagine this place in the Spring thaw when the journey of a thousand miles begins with a trickle...just simply amazing!
