Description

I initially posted my last space scene as a one time deal. I have had some good feedback and I have decided to try and put up some more images in this category. Most of what I will be putting up here will be backdrops which I have designed for my various 3D scene renders. This little gem is going to be the backdrop for my next modeling project. I though someone else might like it as a desktop or something. The image was done pretty much entirely in GIMP, however I had to run it through PSP X to get it into a workable BMP and JPG format. I am trying a few new techniques which I have picked up from some of the great online tutorials. I think this one came out rather well. Please rate the images so I can tell if folks like them and I always encourage both positive feedback and critiques from others. I hope you enjoy it. Sparrownightmare (Rich)

I like it, except the clouds make it seem as though the planet is inside the atmosphere.

I was playing with the idea of putting more gas clouds in front of the planet, but it made it mess up the scale. The top layer is actually the planet. If you look, you will notice that it is the only area where the starfield does not show through.

I think the clouds are fine as they give the image a fantasy atmosphere....and isn't that what space scenes are all about anyway?....if anything, I would critic the two suns as it sort of looks like you did one sun and at the last minute decided it needed something more and as a quick fix, you duped another sun. Maybe replace one sun with another planet that is different somehow from the main planet....just a thought as overall this is very nicely done!

Actually each sun was done using the GIMP Supernova filter. They are each on separate screen layers on black backgrounds. I layered each sun in between different cloud layers to make them look like a binary solar system.

For me it works nice. The overall work gives a good-looking and attractive image.
