Description

No snow today for the image I had planned for my 200th but plenty of frost and ice and a good still night, perfect for practising a bit of star photography. I've tried this only a handful of times as it requires certain conditions and a degree of patience, but of the few results I've made this is probably the best so far. The foreground is nothing special, just our chimney and some trees in the garden, but I'm not going to go hiking off round fields in the middle of the night without having gotten the technique down! For the first time I managed to get the north/polar star (correct me if my terminology's wrong) in the frame, which I was quite pleased with =) The divide in the sky I think came from occasional cloud blowing over during the nearly 9 minute exposure, but I quite like the effect it's given even though it obscures clear view of some of the stars on the left. 200 winning images... WOW - Congrats young man. And what an image to celebrate this milestone... Fantastic work Adam. I have been threatening to do star trails for ages now. We are going to Namibia in March and I can so see myself trying it in the desert where there are no light pollusion!!! :)

I've heard the term star trails...now, thanks to this super photo, I've got an understanding of what it is all about. I've got to try this one day. This is going into my favorites right away. Congrats on #200...I just realized, I am five short :)
