Hi, I'm Marilyn.  I've been posting here on RR for a few years now and thought it was time to update my profile.  It's been wonderful learning so much from the amazingly talented people here.  I've had the chance to meet many in person and some have become great and good friends.  Starting with a Kodak Brownie camera when I was about 7 or 8, moving up to Instamatics, Polaroids, then the Pentax K1000 that really got me on the way, I've been looking at the world thru a lens for a long time.  Got the bug honestly; my dad was a photographer and gave me the gene!!  Digital changed the world and I jumped in with both feet.  You would've gone thru 100's of rolls of film in one day the way we can shoot and delete all day long.  Progess...it can be awesome sometimes.
At any rate, RR rocks, the talent is over the top and I'm just gonna keep on shooting!!
Thanks for looking and keep those cameras rollin'!!
peace.....marilyn

Great shot, Today I am back at the Friday art and craft group where myself and Jeff usually play around with our cameras but last week I took out my brushes and easel and had a dabble at the paints, first time in 12 months! So I find myself studying this in great detail, looking right through the amazing colour of the Orchid and following each line, shade and pattern of the water. Wonderful!

Love the very close crop...really brings your subject to the observers immediate attention. I have to slap myself periodically to crop more...crop more! Well done,

It looks almost edible like this, nice one Mazzer!!!

For bottoms up I'd have to turn the photo upside down... :) Beautiful clarity and composition, the black background really works well.

I agree with Denise about the black background - it's quite striking! (That's the answer, you know, to shoot things with the black already in place! It avoids all that pesky postwork.) I love the way this turned out. Rocks?

I got goofy and stood on my head (I'm at work and wearing my office attire so you can imagine the stir that caused!) to look at this orchid and to see it that way, it sort of reminds me or a sunburned Big Bird with acne. I like it best this way that you have it because that way it reminds me of a stellar, vibrant orchid. LOL

Okay, to me it suggests a split-open strawberry, immersed in a bowl of yogurt, surrounded by banana peelings. Great contrast against the black background, or has that been mentioned already? Incidentally, I finished off my beautiful classic car series today, so you can come back to my gallery now. Among other things, I'll be featuring all kinds of floral stuff, at least for the foreseeable future.

well! You gave it a portrait-shot this time! You dragged it into the studio, had it pose (told it to shut up, it won't be long), got all the lighting, and whoosh: A portrait of an orchid in a glass. I like all the comments above, and to me it looks like a very exotic banana daiquiri (sp?), and though I barely drink I'm ready to run over and drink that thing. Fine against the black background too. A fav for the whole orchid series, I love the whole bunch!
