I'm not sure what all to say about myself, I live in Ann Arbor, Michigan (USA) and work as a graphic designer/computer technician for a print shop. I have a BS in Historic Preservation, but wasn't willing to go on for a Master's Degree, nor was I interested in teaching, so I found another career. I discovered Bryce way back when version 1 came out, but I didn't really get serious about the program, or 3D art in general, until a few years ago. When I'm not in front of the computer, I'm either making costumes or wearing them to a renaissance festival, or building a new rock-sculpture, or possibly wandering with a camera.
When I'm not making something, odds are I'm reading from my far too wide range of interests: Astronomy, Cosmology, Physics, Archeology, Anthropology, History, Current Events, NASA (of course) and anything else that happens to catch my attention. It's really hard to find enough time to do all of the things I want to be doing! What drew me to Renderosity is the many excellent artists who continue to inspire me to push myself as an artist. More recently I've added a selection of stuff to another online gallery location:http://nefariousdro.deviantart.com/ÂÂ

Excellent stuff, like a WW2 British North Atlantic convoy - armed merchentmen protecting the others in place of much needed corvettes and destroyers. Pesonally I would thin the nebulae a bit as they are obscurring some of the ships. I know that's probably what you intended but those ships are too amazing to hide.

Fantastic work!!!

A busy sky with beautiful ships! Wonderful work :)

Great concept and idea....the only thing that I would critique is that the nebula is really busy and competes with the ships for attention....other than this though, it's a great image.

I really like the ships and the POV, but yeah, I'd suggest thinning the nebula a bit. Maybe just put a filament or two in front of the ships to show that they're still inside the nebula.

Impressive work...both in the Bryce modeling and the post work! Any of these ships available?

Beautiful picture! Excellent art..

That's quite good! But if you want to make it more realistic, I think you should completely hide parts of the ships with nebula clouds, to simulate the fact that ships are inside the nebula.

this is wonderful

Beautiful job...I agree with a lot of the comments, there's 'something' about the nebula...all of their ides have their pros and cons, ha. If there was a way to give the nebula a bit more 'depth' to it? But I do have to agree with your choice of 'thickness' to the nebula and how much it hides of the ships...they should be hid 'cause sneaking through a nebula that the raiders could still see 'em through just defeats the purpose, rofl.

These ships look GREAT together and I like the fleet hiding in the nebula!!! David

Awesome modeling and scene. I think the thickness, transparency, etc of the nebula are just about right.Of course, I've never been inside a nebula!

I wouldn't be able to suggest anything; it looks pretty darn good to me.

No wonder you want to work on this one further. It's a mesmerizing one. Personally, I like the positioning, the pov, extremely well. But, you know what just might be throwing you slightly? Check the smallest stars here when you view the image full size. There's something just slightly unreal about them. They're a neat effect, but they're detracting from the overall comp a little, imho. They lend a certain flatness because they're so very definitely in the foreground. I think it's somewhat skewing the sense of depth. Do you see what I see, and does this make any sense? As for other comments about getting some depth with the nebula, have you tried the artistic filter, adding plastic wrap (sometimes with the sliders, you can even almost totally invert lighting and dimension..but hey, you likely already know this trick), then Edit to Fade Plastic Wrap, to bring it down to exactly where you'd like? I use this often for depth, since most of my stuff lacks 3d impact to start. Just honestly answering your call for suggestions..because it really is beautiful just as IS. :)

This sci-fi scene is absolutely 'realistic', and the hazy effects are excellent. What's more, your modelling adds a lot to the beauty and efficiency of the composition. Excellent work!
