Description

My beautiful, my beautiful balloon The world's a nicer place in my beautiful balloon, It wears a nicer face in my beautiful balloon, We can sing a song and sail along the silver sky, For we can fly, we can fly Up, up and away While scouring my closet for the P-38 film prints from April 2001 that I posted over the last two days, I came upon a slew of hot air balloon fotos that I had taken during a trip I took in October 1988, via automobile, to visit my brother who lived then in Los Alamos -- birthplace of the atomic bomb -- in New Mexico. Also captured on the journey were shots of the Grand Canyon, The Petrified Forest, and that gigantic meteorite crater in Arizona. But I digress. On route, I stopped off in the lovely city of Albuquerque, NM, coincidentally at the height of their annual Hot Air Balloon festival. Serendipity at its finest! So, time schedule be damned, I proceeded to run out onto the sand, brush and mesquite with my Pentax-built Sears SLR to snap as many of these beautiful balloons as my supply of film would allow. Darn, if they only had affordable digital cameras back then. I've found about 25 prints of the balloons so far; I know there are more lurking somewhere among the flotsam, but, despite my rabid searching, and virtually emptying the closet, I haven't been able to locate them as yet. Anyway, this is the first in a series of balloon fotos that were scanned into the computer and postworked for presentation. My belated dedication to the Montgolfier Brothers. Thankx for the visit, and have a tempestuous Tuesday.

Looking good. Twenty years ago we had hot air balloons taking off from a huge field behind our house...today, guess what...yup a housing development in place of that fine old field. So, Harry, I look forward to what you have. It will give me another memory lane to walk down. Thanks ahead of time.

a nice bold blast of a balloon (I figured you'd like that since you're into alliteration), it's right in the center, and it stands out like a burst against that big blue sky. Hits you right between the eyes. Never been in a balloon but they sure look beautiful floating up there. If you have more shots, hope you'll post them. Bold shot!

Great shot, Harry. I guess that show in Albuquerque is the most famous in the country, and I never had the chance to go. Bet it was something. Very nicely done here and look forward to more.
