Description
I'm not home & wasn't going to post, but we just did a "dare": "Imitate decayed art." So I imitated a decayed oil painting. Actually, it's a section of a decayed oil painting: It's supposed to be magnified many times, like a section studied by curators... Just some end-of-the-workday fun all done in Photoshop...

I agree, pine bark! Or a section of a painting done the opposite of the recommended "lean to fat".

Your "dare" is an excellent piece of strutures and colours. In my opinion and and about what i think to know about "decayed art",you didn´t imitate it, but you RE-CREATE it.The colours are strong and brilliants and the crack it´s like a play among the layers... and under them, a shape/figure appears, just like it is: to me, a underwater struture or so...I like the colours of your "imitation"...they have strengh enough to be the sustainer of its own. It´s beautiful and a great one.

Mark you did such a splendid job my friend and in my humble opinion only you could bring such care and meaning to a image of a decayed painting you created. The cracks really define it and I can almost sense the time that has worn it away.

I have just been intently pouring over maps of Caribbean islands for my own amusement ... do you see why I mention it? :) This is just beautiful. The colors and textures are intense and engaging!

Very creative Mark. Now, the next part of the dare, will be to illustrate an art conservator's repair job of the same section... Nicely done and it looks very authentic IMO :)

This is amazing, Mark . When I look at it I see a blue humanoid figure with an insanely long neck;it seems to have partially absorbed a brownish gray being, that in turn has a dolphin like creature pushing its head under the other's jaw. Very cool art!

a beautiful end of working day play, mark. i see on a sunday, far away from work, an coral atoll, and i get a melodie, faure's in paradisum comes to my mind and here we are again, smiling :) the strong blues are so wonderful!

I have been studying this for a little while, and coming up with al sorts of stuff. Mainly I see a tree bent over as a tidal waves splashes over it, is that good or bad Mark? It is a very vibrant and textured design whatever it is supposed to express, great work, hugs Jane xx

And when you peeled away the layers of time - - - what did you find?? What type of canvas was it and how old? Who painted it? Was there something else painted beneath it? You've opened up a small window there - just enough to shed a bit of light, literally and figuratively. Love this image, Mark. It reminds me of the mysteries I sometimes read. Excellent and thought provoking.

Well, this is a curiosity, to say the very least! I, too, have been more than a bit, studying it. One seriously thought-provoking image, Mark. I'm torn. There are so many things within it, so many potential, possible interpretations, so many avenues it takes the mind's eye. And, I call up eye for good reason. Do you see it? Yes, there is the perfect representation of decay, evident in its unique fossil-like form at first glance. But then, that eye...yielding to the soft curve of an appendage...a trunk even...and before I know it, I'm viewing a perfect variation of Ganesha! And, so I sit here, hoping that the remover of obstacles..has lifted any and all of YOURS. Peace and thoughts your way. And, of course, thanks to you...for this particular, provocative, lush, blue wonder! One could happily submerge inside this hue for hours. Hmm, come to think of it..'scuse me..don't mind if I do..diving head-first :)
