UPDATED: September 19, 2010
Hi, My name is Bill and I am updating my homepage to reflect a wonderful event in my life...marriage, September 18, 2010, to my best friend Tara...known to many of you as auntietk here on Renderosity.
We "met" shortly after I joined Renderosity in August 2008. We share a love for photography and indeed all types of art.
We live north of Seattle and enjoy getting to share photographic excursions and information with other Renderositians ( is "Renderositians" even a word? ). LOL
As for me, it seems like I've been taking pictures all my life but I didn't get serious enough to purchase my first Digital Single Lens Reflex (DSLR) camera until May 2008. In May 2009 I upgraded from an Olympus E-510 to an Olympus E-30 with a wide variety of lenses.
My subject areas of interest include absolutely everything but with a frequent return to airplanes, cars, tanks, etc., ...or as Tara says, machines that make lots of noise;-)
If you are curious, I am pictured above in a Grumman Corsair on a taxiway of the Kansas City Downtown Airport. I used to fly and train others to fly airplanes. That will explain my frequent forays into the world of aviation. Last but by no means least, thanks to Pannyhb for introducing me to Renderosity. The moment I saw it I was hooked.
Fine print: Yes, the photo above is a photo manipulation:-)

Looks great Bill! It's amazing that you did this hand held!
Joekrick
Well done! Exellent scene ... You must have nerves of steel It's really clear and crisp for hand held.
durleybeachbum
I think that's very clever! It will be interesting to find out how to do away with the V next time..let us know!

EXCELLENT panorama..... a couple of suggestions:don't use a wide angle lens, do use a tripod, center the horizon (minimizes distortion), overlap all frames by at least 25% and shoot all frames with the same exposure i.e shoot manual with one setting not automatic (some frames will be underexposed some over but they will match). if you do all that and cs4 will stitch them perfectly. if you still have distortion you can use lens correction (filters/distort/lens correction).

TOO COOL

Excellent job, Bill, and looks like you got some good suggestions there!
Sea_Dog
Excellent panorama.

Great work!

Great camera work, Bill. Wide stance, elbows tucked close to the body, and breathe shallow method?
moonrancher
Wonderful work, Bill!!! After merging the photos, I further correct some of the barreling with the Warp tool. I know a tripod is better, but CS4 does wonders. I saw a tutorial a while back on this, and the photographer purposely did it hand-held to extoll the virtues of CS4. I agree, wide angle images are bad for stitching, because there's a lot of distortion from the lens already.

Yes several cures as Tim and moonrancher suggest for two, also look at Content Aware Scale Which can do some interesting things.. The sky blends in well and you did a good job Bill.

beautiful capture...well done..!!!

Awesome capture, Bill!

Oh I love to fish for striped bass! What fun it would be to try it here! Outstanding pano.

Excellent capture.Great view.Wonderful work.

An excellent capture and I rather like the V even if it isn't technically correct. Of course I had to count them.
MrsRatbag
Well done, V and all!

Considering the camera was hand held, I think you did a remarkable job in this stitch job, Bill. I'm glad that others were able to give you quality advice on eliminating the V distortion, because I'm not into that phase of panoramic shots.

I think Tim said it all, not that I'd have any clue as to how to fix it!! Zoom is awesome, really shows detail and all the people--great shot!!
lyron
Excellent panorama!!

Blimey mate! Bugger the V... I'm impressed!!!! I wouldn't dare try this, mainly cos' I haven't got CS4! Ha! I can't see the joins(as they say!). So, you've done a grand job. Really well done. As for dull weather, try adjusting, brightness or contrast. Maybe Saturation a bit. Might work... Does for me... Ha! Good one mate! Rob.

Pebble beach.. lol Fantastic shot !! :)

Well I was going to tell you to use content aaware scaling, but I see danny has got there first, other than the V which INHO does not matter and doesn't detract from the image, it a cracker.
ragouc
Cool panorama.

Great shot and great pano Bill!

It's always nice when one of you asks for suggestions, because I get free photography lessons. I don't know the camera at all, but I do remember in the analog days that people spoke of getting the shoreline at mid level, if you're going to do a broad shot. But in those days, photographers allowed a lot more, and I personally have no problem with the V...to me, it's a dramatic arc. (I'm seeing like a painter...) In any case, I love the feel of the stones (hey, those are big grains of sand!), I love the semi-symmetry of the shot, I love the darker shore right against the water, and that dark sky is really moody; and the water bulges a bit upwards which, to me, is wonderfully expressive. I was on Montauk Point years ago, and it felt like the end of the world. I think you got that here. Nice stitching too, very seamless...

Wow ... great pano! I'm impressed. :)

oh I like this pano, Bill, and I do like the v in it too, cause it gives it a bit of action...smile
