Hi, My name is Bill and I am updating my homepage to reflect a wonderful event in my life...marriage, September 18, 2010, to my best friend Tara...known to many of you as auntietk here on Renderosity.
We "met" shortly after I joined Renderosity in August 2008. We share a love for photography and indeed all types of art.
We live north of Seattle and enjoy getting to share photographic excursions and information with other Renderositians ( is "Renderositians" even a word? ). LOL
As for me, it seems like I've been taking pictures all my life but I didn't get serious enough to purchase my first Digital Single Lens Reflex (DSLR) camera until May 2008. In May 2009 I upgraded from an Olympus E-510 to an Olympus E-30 with a wide variety of lenses.
My subject areas of interest include absolutely everything but with a frequent return to airplanes, cars, tanks, etc., ...or as Tara says, machines that make lots of noise;-)
If you are curious, I am pictured above in a Grumman Corsair on a taxiway of the Kansas City Downtown Airport. I used to fly and train others to fly airplanes. That will explain my frequent forays into the world of aviation. Last but by no means least, thanks to Pannyhb for introducing me to Renderosity. The moment I saw it I was hooked.
Fine print: Yes, the photo above is a photo manipulation:-)

One would get very concerned to see it in the rear view mirror, and gaining. I've always had my eye on the Australian Army Perentie six wheel drive long wheelbase Land Drovers designed as Battlefield Tactical Vehicles - designed to have a wheel blown off with a land mine and still keep rolling, designed to fall off a fifty foot cliff and still drive away - not sure how well the people inside would be in the last case. But an armoured vehicle that leaves the guy who hit you wondering why his car is totalled while yours has a few scratches just kind of appeals to me. Now the big question, are you sure this tank wasn't just at the side of the parking lot while waiting for the owner to finish his beer and chat? I like the angle you got.

Now, THAT would clear out traffic in a hurry!!

Nice image :)

Not far from here in Dorset is the Tank Museum, attached to an army camp where VERY young soldiers learn to drive such stuff. we have had many traffic incidents caused by the combination of youth, inexperience and heavy metal!

AWESOME CAPTURE AND SUPER DEFINITIONS....WELL DONE..!!!!

Everyman's fantasy. In the 1970s, while living in wide-open Wyoming, I made trips to Houston on business. Never imagined such traffic on 8-lane freeways. Oh for such vehicle.

Nice shot mate. I don't care if its outdated if it gets me through peak hour traffic quicker!

This is what I think of every time I see a Hummer driving down the road. :)

LOL now that'd get you throug the rush hour alright :)

That is just WAY COOL!!! Brilliant shot, I've got to have one! We get assorted (much lighter) AFV's rolling round the streets here! RAF Regiment and Marine bases are VERY near. There Scorpions and the like are often out in the traffic..... I thought that gun looked kinda familiar! That bulge in the barrel. British guns have it! Great shot Bill. Well done. Love it. Rob.

Good shooting there. Great for "rush hour" ( which is a misnomer) traffic but wonder about the parking. I suppose as mean and big as it is, you "Tankers" parked anywhere you wanted to. Ain't got much of a glide ratio, does it?.
MrsRatbag
That would make for an interesting test drive! "And what's this button? OOOPS!!!"

Road rage? What road rage! Excellent detail.

who can forget that goofball in san diego who stole one of these from a guard armory. he was shot dead finally (by the hiway patrol through a hatch) after he got high-centered on the concrete traffic divider of a freeway. no one else was hurt but there were lots of broken cars . . . great perspective.

reading the comments in your gallery can sometimes be a great experience in itself. Andrea's comment on the tank museum, denise's great comment about "what's this button...ooops!" and the story above me about some guy who stole a tank (stole a tank! man, that's a theft!) and went out on the highway with it. Amazing stuff. (Reminds me of the old Beyond the Fringe routine about "the Great Train Robbery," where Peter Cook dryly explained that they didn't actually 'steal a train,' as it would be very tedious to carry it and conceal it in a satchel...) Anyway, full-view, you got a very noble pov, it's shot from below on an angle that shows off its might, and the angle & light makes it seem like it's posing for you. An instinctive pov, instinctive to the mighty object you're shooting, with the under-jaws in enough shadow to give a sense of how terrifying it was to come face to face with these things in battle. Also, I noticed you included a car to the right, perhaps so we can get a sense of just how big these things are. Noble shot, I mean the word. Strong noble presence...

LOVE THAT CANNON! Great POV looking up at the brute, which really makes it look quite imposing, along with stark light and shadow contrasts, in this superb capture of heavy armor, Bill! I also have some of this kind of stuff somewhere in my gallery.

Big evil Grin! Could have done with this in town today Bill got cut up twice!!

Full view is amazing! Nice capture!

Gotta love Heavy Metal, Skipper beat me to the point on park where you like :) Can't add much that hasn't already been said....Just brilliant and an instant FAV. Thanks Bill.

Great capture Bil. It would come in handy during rush hour traffic. I like your explanation of an American Legion Hall - short and to the point!! lol
lyron
Great capture!!
Jay-el-Jay
I suppose there would be no problem getting through traffic with this vehicle. But,how is it on gas?
Fred255
I could do with one of those, It would help with parking problems, I'd park it where ever I want to. Nobody will clamp it or tow it away.
proteus2
Nice pic ! ----------- We used them in Greece for some time-actually I think we still do- and they showed HUGE on the thermal imagers. BTW, i've been under one of these,in some drill... The smell of petrol and oil stayed on the fatigues for days. Hey ! Where's the M60? P
mermaid
hihi Bill, oh yes it would make a formidable vehicle in a traffic jam...reminds me instantly of this video I once saw, where really someone took one of those tanks and drove out to streets flatting out everything in his way... thankfully no person was hurt
bronwyn_lea
Such a powerful peace of machinery. Great picture!

These babies are still clanking along, just not with US forces. The USMC was still using thme in the 90s. Great POV!
