Description
Thank you all for following this work in progress and your generous comments thus far, you really encourage me !!!
As stated earlier this area was first painted with 2 running and crude glazes , which helped to establish a tone for this area , as well as to help me discover the rock formations .
As I sharpened up some darks and pulled the lights , I began to make a discovery . Not only did I have the skull as planned (Golgotha) but something else began to emerge ..... the centurions memory of the agonizing way in wich he watched Christ die ..... and allthough he was carrying out his duty as a Good soldier , this haunts him !!! And adds successfully to his mood !!! At least in my mind it does.
I'm not sure we're done with this area yet, we'll get some more things happening in this work and maybe come back later.
We got 6 inches of snow on the ground and it's still comin down, near white out conditions, so had to shoot it inside at extreme angles to avoid reflections ... hence the strange cropping of this pic .

By the way comments as well as suggestions are welcome... as you are all, a gifted bunch of Artists, and I really respect your thoughts and opinions ..... and have been learning and growing from studying your work!!!!!!!!

ARTWITHIN
I'm struck by the three crosses on top of the mountain, and the height of the mountain. I don't believe is was so pronounced in reality, but your image gives this a more important aspect to the events. The crosses appear at the summit of a grand ascent, and at the entrance to Paradise. Very dramatic and strong symbolism that I love very much.

I think faemike55 has just said what you meant. Artwithin has also contributed a meaning. I can see many souls at the bottom of the mountain looking the cross.

Powerful. The skull is riveting. I like the position of the Centurians hands (both of them)...the positioning of hands and fingers of a man lost in deep, deep thought.

yes, seeing this in progress is exciting...I agree with suzanne about the 3 crosses in their dramatic union on the hill; the hills are portrayed with real drama cutting down their sides, the lines being like pain made visible (considering the theme involved); your unfinished soldier (front) seems like he's in the middle of just another long day despite the heaviness of the symbolism, and the sky is filled with an apocalyptic furor. I'll come back to see what you do in the next stages, it's always generous when an artist shares their 'steps'; and I thank you for coming to my gallery.

One wonders what he is thinking about? Maybe he rather likes to watch some of the videos... only you know. Right? Perhaps you are the reincarnated Leonardo da Vinci... but, I think you look more like the reborn Van Gogh... not in the style he did, but in the face he used to make... smile me. Blood and tears... And: If I where you, I would not paint the pain... LOL... but maybe you are obsessed with those Jesus type things... Anyway, it was nice to "walk" around you gallery and it was also extremely worthwile every second. THC und good look !

Tom this is outstanding!!!.... You show that artistic license is just that.... The freedom to express yourself in ANY manner you seem fit in order to fully depict the vision that YOU have in your heart and soul....A potential problem with this is of course that some people will internalize and project their own interpretations upon a very personal work or idea.....Then began to tell you how YOU should do something without saying it in a way that is respectful.....Bravo to your courage and spirit and may the positive voices always drown out the negative ones in all of your pursuits and passions...not just art.... And that goes for everyone else as well.... Let's just believe in each other and follow our hearts wherever they may lead.....(or is there a greater irony somehwere in what I have said) lol lolo lololo Awesome work my friend. And awesome detailed description of your process...Glad to be of help anytime as you are truly an inspiration to me.....
