Description

weather won't let me photograph the work in progress painting , maby tomorrow. This is a wall mural I painted in 06, its 40feetx12feet painted in exterior latex and acrylics. It's in a small town in Iowa, the town was originally founded about 12 miles from here when the railroad came thru they litteralry moved the town so about 1/3 of the buildings are not on their original foundations.... Moving a whole town (CRAZY) Anyway they requested , that I portray the past and the present, with a train as the focal point, other than that I was given full artistic liscense . A large portion of the tracks in Iowa have been torn up and turned into bike trails .... Thus the bike! tom ..... views best fullsize

My, my...simply outstanding. I think a town that spends for a bit of original art unique to their history has spent money that has a lasting impact. There will be youngsters from that town who will be telling their grandchildren about this mural for years to come. We have such a mural here in Leavenworth too.

This mural is wonderful. You really captured the sense of past and present clearly. The perspective is exciting and the colors fresh and lively. That town should be very happy the chose you to do this. It is superb!

bravo on this Tom...its gorgeous. I used to get exhausted when I did large pieces in my younger years...because I had to keep running back from it to regain perspective LOL...I probably would have passed out doing this one :: This might explain why the biggest I do now is house wall murals and the like

Beautiful work! Our train tracks through town are also becoming bike trails. This is a lot better work than the murals painted in the downtown area that our city hired to be done. I could enjoy something like this, if only we had murals depicting the history of our town, instead nonsense. :o) Oh well...
