Description

Looking for a way to emphasize the geometry of the bridge and downplay very unattractive shorelines on both sides, I used vignetting in the filter gallery of PS CS4. Hope you find this unusual treatment appealing. Believe me, it is an improvement over the boring original. Thanks for stopping by and all your outstanding support. Your comments keep me going for more... Bill:)

Bravo Bill - I love the treatment and the image! Your POV is also great and enhances the size of the bridge! Very pleasing indeed my friend! :)

Very nice, and a good way to focus the attention on the bridge. However, the first thing I thought of when I saw it was, "McDonald's ought to buy the bridge and take over it's maintenance, then they can paint it bright yellow and put a store beside it for easy advertising."

Great to have photography lessons here...I personally don't mind the shoreline, but I'm not a photographer and don't have to deal with these things like all of you do. But your vignetting does a lot in addition to bringing out that beautiful bridge: It intensifies that gorgeous blue (whew that's a gorgeous saturated blue on that bridge); it brings out its relationship to the deeper blue of the sky; it intensifies the contrast of the underside of the bridge—all shadow—with the bridge above; it intensifies the shadows of the pillars; and it allows us to see, without interference, the diagonal "opening" of the bridge's shadow in the water and the shoreline & bridge itself, a kind of 'rule of 3d's', basic and quite pleasing. I know it's the bane of every photographer to see a fine shot inside a larger shot that doesn't enhance it: How to get rid of the lesser parts, how to do it 'naturally', etc. (I go through it with painting & drawing, I understand the principle.) Well you may know: Silent filmmakers got this effect by simply closing the camera's iris: They called it "iris shots": When they did a closeup on someone at the end of a scene, they'd iris in, the face would stare at the camera, then they'd iris into total black. Old as photography. Fine job on this picture.

Your treatment very effectively brings the eye right to the geometry of the bridge, Bill.

I thought this was Nijmegan bridge at first glance, I like the vignette, give the shot a strange mysterious history, might have worked well in mono Bill?

Interesting shot there, well done. Also, you caught the shadow of the bridge wonderfully well. Like it.

Strong and appealing. You've accomplished your mission and I see why you like that bridge a lot in spite of the rest.

Stellar perspective, and what anahata.c said. Reminds me of my old Erector set childhood. Also, I would like to know what filter and/or process you used to achieve this effect.
