Description

Hi Friends & Visitors I have just realized that I have not placed any 'civilization' images yet since the start of the Namibia journey! So let me correct that straight away! This is the coastal town of Swakopmund in Namibia. Swakop = name of the river that flows into the ocean here and mund = german for mouth! You can pick up from the few buildings showing on the image that here is a huge German influence - not only in architecture but in all forms of life! You still find traditional German bakeries and they make the most divine German breads and pastries. It is also said that German tourists come to Swakopmund especially to have an Eisbein!!! (pork knuckle) Legend have it that a specific restaurant in Swakopmund makes the best Eisbein in the world!!! The line of trees visible on the image are on the beds of the (dry) Swakop River. You can also see the bridge spanning the river on the right hand side of the image. This is the river that divides the Namib Desert into two distinct parts - south are the 'sand' desert (and you can see the dunes as a backdrop) and north is the 'stone' desert. Thank you for visiting my gallery and for you very valued comments and favs on my last upload! Take care. Hugs, Carin xx

Yes, very German indeed, with the neat lines and harmonious colors. A wonderful setting for this cozy jewel!

Super shot and notes. After living for more than three years in Germany in the 70s, I'd feel right at home in this town. I'm sure you began your day with brochen and a nice slab of butter:)

I also fell in love with it just from this shot but heck, it looks like it gets dry and hot! Its very unexpected to find this little village popping out of that landscape like that and one that is so very well maintained and bright. Fabulous shot!!! Stellar!

I'm stunned! The architecture itself looks so unlike what I had imagined! And German pastries? Amazing! Thanks for sharing this!

beautiful colors and setting, is it just plonked in the Desert? and are all the roads dusty roads? excellent capture. I think i could walk around that town a dozen time and each time see something new.
