Description

This huge Coot's nest was covered in litter of all kinds, especially plastic wrapping from food bags, crisps and the like. I think the whole family must feel good about the reuseing of our waste. They all looked well, the chicks with the punk hairdos where very chirpy! Their multi coloured topknots are very fashionable in the ponds this year, it seems.

I wonder how many will survive! I watched a coot mum some years ago drown several of her chicks through what seemed like frustration.

This sort of thing, all the trash in the nest, always brings a stab of guilt that I, as a human, am dirtying the world by my need for disposable things and packaging. Then I remember how careful I am not to leave litter and how I tend to pick up other's litter when I see it. Nice shot.

I too despair when I see the mess we are making of this beautiful planet and the wildlife that suffers because of our neglectful behaviour. I hope this family of Coots survives the rigours of sharing their world with us. They look a lovely couple on what is one of the largest Coot nests I think I have ever seen. ^-^

Mother Nature takes care of itself in the end, whether good or bad, of the outcome for us ! zoomed-in, it's not very sharp...maybe it's a very far-away shot ? nice catch, Kevin...never heard of a Coot before in our Country. Cheers BB
