Description

Still drawin on the canvas ... and wearin out pencil lead in a hurry... popeslattz I do the same thing sharpen a bunch of pencils at the beginning ... however there aint a pencil in my house right now, longer than 2 inches ... ;) I have an electric sharpener too. When I'm drawing detail like faces etc. and am on a roll it's so much easier to use a mechanical pencil , because the point size does'nt change much. vintorix .... No it's not belgium linnen ... I used to stretch my own canvas and buy it by the roll , and made my own stretchers .... still have the means to do this , and maybe someday I'll do it again , for times sake I buy them prestretched and primed now ... The disadvantage of this is, that I have to adjust my comps to fit available sizes . Speaking of comps this one was'nt thought out all that well .... as I did'nt have a complete working drawing ,linearly speaking , so i'll have to fix it with color and lights and darks !! Most of the drawing and comp has been done on the canvas , so I might be setting myself up for failure with this piece!!! artwithin... yes there has to be a follow up to this piece.... ( for He who began a great work in us will see it to completion)... For many are called but few are chosen... I believe this man was chosen!!! For me to show that ... will be my toughest challenge as an artist!!!!!!!!!!!! tom

"so I might be setting myself up for failure with this piece!!" aha, so normally you make a drawing before starting the pencil work on the canvas. hmm, soon you will have no secrets left! :) The Bible and the Greek mythology have inspired thousands if not millions of artwork through the times. For the ones not familiar with the Bible I guess that the roman centurion i Tom's picture is the one who said, "Indeed, this man was the Son of God". And for those who wondered why he is sitting at such a magnificent grave it was Joseph Of Arimathaea the richest man among Jesus followers who put Jesus in his own new tomb.

I'm going to enjoy this one. I'm fascinated by the abstract quality of some of the things at this point, and I think it would be interesting to keep that bit of abstraction of background, putting as much attention on the centurion and Jesus as possible, and expressing the mystical aspect of this meeting. Just my thoughts, but I'm not the artist, you are! Somewhere down the line I hope you paint one of Jesus appearing to Mary Magdalene, the "first" Apostle...the first to be given the responsibility to take the Good News to the others. My I think your request list could become quite long.

The WIP moves ahead. My timing here probably is more accidental than planned but I find I like commenting after a hand full of others have already done so. What a great array of comments here this morning. But I am glad I got my suggestion in early:) This continues to come along very well!

Nice work so far. Trees are a little distracting from the main focus, but I'm sure they will blend in. Like I said, I know nothing about what you do. I paint rocks. Lol. I so enjoy your work & your themes. Plus I get the benefit of an art lesson at the same time. Thanks! ")

The bones are beginning to be fleshed in .. the setting is beginning to show itself, trees, rocks, marvelous hints of what glorious painting this will be.
