Description

USS Tennessee, lead ship of her class, was commissioned on June 3, 1920. She was built at the New York Navy Yard and won a US Navy Unit Commendation and 10 battle stars. At Pearl Harbor in 1941, she was struck by two armor piercing bombs. One bomb knocked out the number two turret guns and the other went through the number three turret and knocked out the left gun. She was also sprayed by debris from the explosion on the USS Arizona. USS Tennessee was towed to Puget Sound for permanent repairs, was refit and was also in Rear Admiral Jesse Oldendorf’s battle group at Leyte Gulf in 1944. She was sold for scrap in 1959. For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life. For God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world through Him might be saved. Nice to see this.. and great history you provided, sad to see it was sold to scraps rather then restored in some way, but at least they re use them in some ways. Great work~
