Description

Another shot from my back yard this Downy Woodpecker is one of the year round residents and frequent feeders and is less camera shy than the Red-bellied and Pileated woodpeckers. They will land on the feeders or trees then pose to have there picture taken, LOL. Unlike the other two which are off at the slightest movement. Thanks for stopping by to view another member of my extended bird family and for any comments you care to leave. Have a great day/night!!!

Beautiful capture. Before I had vinyl siding installed on my house, I had one of these guys actually drill a hole right through my wood siding. You'd think he could tell the difference between a house and a tree, wouldn't you? Excellent shot...love the tone and texture of the bark.

Nice shot! I have been trying to get a good capture of the pileated, they can be heard from my door. One tree that the nest in blew down in the last wind. These Downy and some hairy woodpeckers are frequent visitors.

Love these little guys! Easy to identify with the splash of red on their head like they landed too close to a plein air artist who touched them with their paint-red brush. =) Great image!

Bravo!!! You got the male, I got the female, lol...actually there are a pair of them out here now but I can't ever get a clear shot:-( This is awesome, they are such small birds in comparison to the other woodpeckers here. Instant fav!

Great shot, Royce! I would love to get one of these, but they are always too far away and too quick to fly!
