Description
WW II British Spitfire flying through the upper reaches of the Transportation Gallery in the Chicago Museum of Science and Industry.
Lucky for me there was a balcony that allowed me to get close to this historic relic known for its' fine performance in the hands of the RAF while whipping Hermann Goering's Luftwaffe in 1940.
The main reason three of us Renderositians journeyed to Chicago was to see the German WW II U-boat, U-505. Will have something up from that amazing display soon.

P.S. Forgive the gleaming reflections in the canopy...bright lights at the wrong places...didn't like the looks when eliminated.

Ahhhhhhh ... the first airplane photo from your trip. :D I am imagining you with your camera, happy as a clam, combining photography, aviation, and friendship all at one time. What could be better? My friend, I will have nothing intelligent to say about these images as you put them up, but I will look with great interest! What attracts me about this one is the way the surface of the metal undulates with color and light. Such a rich patina - it's beautiful! In other words ... whatever comments I make will be along the lines of ... "Oooooooo! Pretty!"

This is a great shot! The reflection of the light on the body shows the dents and dings. I think if they wouldn't be visible it would take away from the photo.

Tallyho, am right on Jerry's tail... Stellar photo taken from inside an otherwise dimly lit museum, Bill. I know the feeling well. And, I don't recall the Spitfire having such a drab paint job. Actually, it was the Hawker Hurricane that inflicted more damage on the raiding Luftwaffe than the more highly publicized Supermarine Spitfire.

Great shot. I would guess that is a patch for a previous suspension point . . . I really dislike suspended aircraft . . . but not all museums have unlimited floor space . . .

I love stuff like this. My uncle was a gunnery sergeant on a B26 during WWII. The history from this time just fascinates me. I am glad you enjoyed your trip.
