Description

That's durleybeachbum and bmac62, to be specific. Taking a very brief respite from my Memorial Day Ceremony series to show this. Captured 6/6/09, late afternoon, within walking distance of my place. This is my initial venture into this particular genre. Although Andrea and Bill are into vehicle taillights, this is in the same general area, and hope this one meets with their approval. Actually, one could make a whole career out of photographing head and taillights, since there is such a vast variety on late model vehicles, and if you change POVs even a little bit while snapping them, they present an ever evolving tableau of colors, reflections and textures. And, mea culpa, since these were inadvertent shots as I strolled along the boulevard, I didn't bother to record the make and model of the vehicles these were attached to. Could be from a Ford and a Toyota. To atone for my oversight, I returned later to the scene but the autos had since disappeared. Sorry about that. PPS followup, dated 6/20/09: After some endless and dedicated detective work, I finally identified the make and model of the bottom headlight shown above. It's a Lexus LS 300. Now, with that done, I concentrate my efforts on the make and model of the top photo. Tallyho.

They really do make excellent abstracts; some of the more expensive vehicles have really complex designs. It could be a whole career capturing these! Nice captures!

Way to go Harry! I heartily approve...as if I need to, right? LOL. I used to be able to tell exactly what car I was looking at from bits and pieces in the 50s and 60s but today it is a little more difficult as shapes have become more homogenized. I hope you'll do more of these...headlights or taillights, they are all good. And we have certain viewers/commentors who REALLY like close crops. I don't think you can go wrong.

Love the reflections and refractions in both of these shots, and the swoopy design of the bottom image! Excellent captures, both. Nice work!

Too bad the polycarbonate gets cloudy over the years, but yeah - they do look very nice when brand new. I remember when mine used to be slick like that.

These are nice headlights. They're so fancy! A tail light just came in our mail last week; hubby was like a little kid when it arrived. lol It was a 'pretty' tail light I told him :)

opulent captures, Harry, you got the sweep and curves and all those swirling reflections. And like Andrea says, that top one really is complex: It's like a whole city in there! I wonder if you don't feel some connection between photographing these and photographing the long shiny complex exteriors of planes...big difference, I know, but visually they all have sweep & many lines & sheen. Well, just a thought. Beautiful capture, makes me want to sit down and paint one!
