One of the most dread members of the Knights of the Cleansing Flame, a fanatical order of militant monks of Donblas also known as the Inquisition, Avvon Helforth is a depraved, merciless and soulless sadist, infamous for accusing beautiful, young women of witchcraft (i.e. Chaos worship), to which they invariably confess under his “questioning”. Truly a coward, like most bullies, he delights in lording the authority he doesn’t really have over both commoners and nobles of Vilmir alike, humiliating and subjugating nearly anyone he chooses. Stumbling into conflict with the renegade Dragon Lord Daeron Syn when he seized his companion Nykira Ardonni off the streets of Old Hrolmar along with the Duke’s Mabden bodyguard Nadjana, he was left for dead in the burning Abbey of the Cleansing Flame in the wake of their rescue, but survived to claim that the order’s near destruction was the work of a flight of dragons and their Melnibonean masters in a failed effort to insight a retaliatory strike on Imrryr. Recovering form his near fatal wounds to reign even greater terror over the people of Vilmir, he never again dared to assault Duke Astran, or Nadjana, so directly again.
