Description

Last month, I took a road trip up to Crescent City; almost to the Oregon border. A lot of it is along the coast and simply gorgeous. I stopped any and every time I wanted to, either to just sit, or to take a few fotos. This boat caught my eye. It sat just below a house on the beach (not a bad spot!!), seemed like it was just waiting for something or someone.

Reminds me of when we lived on the beach when I was a kid. We kept a boat much like this one. Just looking at this, I can hear the sound the oars make as they shift in the oarlocks. Great capture!

Certainly looks quite used and perhaps has seen better days in the water, but it makes for a nice 'water-side still life.'

I can hear the gentle lapping sound as water sort of bumps into the sides of the boat under almost calm conditions. Rough but full of character.

Great shot. Lots of character in that boat. Like nongo I love the North Coast of Cal and Oregon Coast.

It is a good boat photo Marilyn but I think that the lighting on the flotsam & jettison, in front of the boat, turns your capture into a great one. Dana

This is strangely haunting. The boat is beautifully captured, but it's the surroundings that really make this pop. The haunting part comes from the fact that it's waterless. I don't know why, but it reminds me of a line from a Jane Sibery song: "...saw a guy, he had a boat with wheels...I said, 'You're a bit early, but I know how you feel." I've been thinking loopy thoughts like that off and on today. And yeah, this photo drew that out. As always, the your sense of color is right on the money, especially the purply lavendery pinky color in contrast with the blue. It's gorgeous! Great stuff.

abandoned boats are like abandoned train cars: They sit there so peacefully, bereft of their duties and resting away in the sun...Powerful lights in this, and wonderful violets and blues both as shadow (under the boat) as well as that striking blue inside the boat. One of those shots that tells us that there's a lot of life right under our noses. Love the stuff in front of it too. Striking capture once more.
