Hello! My name is Jodie. I live in Minnesota where the temps can fluxuate by 20 degrees in one day. Most of my photos have been taken very close to my home, a 10 acre hobby farm., where I raise Alpacas and chickens. I am a band director, a musician/singer and a photographer/adviser on the yearbook committee. My camera of choice is a Nikon. I have a D90 and a D70. I also have a SB800 flash and favorite lens is Nikon 18-200mm AF-S, with VR. Revisiting the visual arts is something I should have done years ago. If I see something remarkable, I just try to capture it. Nobody else will ever see it quite that way again so I hope you try that, too. This is just like expensive therapy for us. Thank you for visiting and may you have a peaceful day!

Beautiful shot. I can remember these critters and how they have yellow defensive that sticks out of their heads when they're bothered, raising a smell for any child foolish enough to handle them. Yes, I was that foolish :o) The colors, focus, and details in this shot are just perfect. Thanks for sharing.

Duncan... These Monarchs are docile and harmless with no smell at all. You are thinking of the Black Swallowtail. When you touch it, it tosses it's head and tries to get you with its "horns" and THAT is a nasty odor you never forget.

Stunning capture Jodie.

Great clarity and composition Jodie. It's amazing to think the patterns are for camouflage despite the bright bands. I would love to see what pops out there.

Stellar clarity in this pic of the little bugger chewing away and absorbing the nutrients from the milkweed, Jodie. Really like the segmented repetitive textures on its bod.

Excellent macro, Jodie. Even at 400 percent your photo is sharp and crisp.

I have lots of these growing here in the yard, the fragrance right now is heavenly!! Cheri just got a shot the other day of a monarch around them, hopefully we get some caterpillars soon! Sweet shot!!!

the milky feel of the whole seems to permeate the shot, as if you used a "milkweed filter"; you caught beautiful detail on the leaves and buds; and the caterpillar has such fine detail & clarity, he almost balances the shot for you. It's just beautiful, and you have buds right behind the leaf (top) and the most beautiful shadows and furrows (in macro), and the background is beautifully vague with greens & purples as well. Can't quite explain it, but its opulent to me, had real depth for a shot of small space; it's lushness in milkweed land, almost exotic, and I think it's a rich & gorgeous shot.
