Description

I'm not actually sure this is a wasp. Maybe? I AM sure this is dill! There are many insects hovering in the garden now. They don't bother us as they are too busy pollinating..lol. The dill is my bumper crop now and WAY too early for the cucumbers. Oh well... If you know what kind of insect this is please let me know. Thanks! Jodie

Awesome clarity and composition Jodie. It looks like summer is in full swing while we suffer in the midst of our long winter. The color is so uplifting for the spirit.

The details you're capturing and lighting are nothing short of amazing. There are all types of wasps and I believe this is one of them, though I'm not certain what kind. Beautiful work.

Lavender blue, dilly dilly.... Superbly stellar POV, clarity, colors, composition, contrast, lighting and textures in this macro, Jodie! Well, the insect does have a wasp waist, so I assume it's a wasp. Actually, that is one strange body arrangement, in particular that camouflaged tank strapped to its rear. Extra fuel for long range flight? Anyway, Andrea is the expert on this stuff, so she may know what this bugger is.

Beautiful photo, Jodie. This little fellow looks like the wasps we have here in Southern Oregon, except here they have yellow stripes on a black thorax.

lol Andrea & Harry...Andrea about only being able to ID Brit insects (who say "Cheerio!", talk about dead parrots, quote Winston Churchill & eat bangers & eggs), and Harry with that extra fuel tank! It's a wonderful macro, of the many designs on its body, of its posture—wonderfully caught, all wrapped around the flower—and of your rich play of focussed & non-focussed flowers & the way the softer focus creates "bursts" throughout the shot: Great work, great choices & seeing. Lotta depth in these macros, and beautiful light & shade (duncan, and ana's "luminosity"): Your years of experience, training & studying other photographers, and probably your lifetime of music has flowed into your photography; and this one is a beautiful example.
