Description

Point Lobos CA State Marine Preserve. Just south of Carmel-by-the-Sea. Red fungus only grows here, on the 300-year-old Monterey Cypress, and only where the fog blows in a certain, continuous and magical way. ND70 photo, 105mm lens.

Amazing. Fungus is always so appealing and that beautiful smut-red really stands out against the muted tones that dominate this. Is this fungus in the smut family? I'm asking because it looks a wee bit like more extravagant wheat smut (only a different color.) Great textures and light as well. This is one of those photos that just draws you into its own world. Great work.
