Description

Within this old mine entrance is a photographic and written history, albeit brief, of the men who lived, worked and died in the mines of Bodmin Moor. When I look at those images, see the faces of those men, my heart hurts! I know it was long ago, and a different morality existed at the time (for some, anyway), but many lives were cut short on this moor and, perhaps because I am Welsh and we too were aware of how cheap life was (to some), I feel an affiliation to the history of Cornwall. As an aside, I was with my daughter on this day, and we were walking close to 4 other folk who were obviously on vacation. To our utter astonishment one of the party remarked that it was an utter waste of space and it would be a bonus if they built a cafe on the top of the shaft!! One word sums up our feelings for that man, though I cannot place it here. Moron instead will have to suffice. Thank you for taking the time to look. ^=^

Life is hard and people are cruel. Your photo is excellent. Keep a place for anger and enjoy the rest, We can not change some things. A word of thanks for posting this.

What a */~~##! I had a lodger, a tourism student, who I overheard telling her mother on the phone that the wet heath on Purbeck was a complete wasteland, an ideal site for Disneyworld! She didn't last long at my house! Bodmin is so bleak that I often feel it carries in its very appearance the lives of those men.
