Description

One of the flowers I would love more of in my garden is the rose. I can grow only semi wild hedgerow types which seem resiliant to attack by just about anything. Part of the Wiccan Rede states: "These Eight words the Rede fulfill: "An Ye Harm None, Do What Ye Will". Hence, for aphids I encourage lacewings, ladybirds and all things 'aphid controlling'; for snails and slugs (which I rather like, actually - go figure!) - I have built a wonderful mansion type, completely weatherproof home which is refreshed each week with hay for the hedgehog and I have numerous bird homes and roosting nests for the birds. But, sadly, although they do their best, they cannot control everything. The aphids know this. Clever little blighters that they are. ^=^ So - no roses. Each time I try one, smoke signals abound over the hills of Cornwall, and the aphid poplation of the entire planet converge on my garden! Truly! 'Tis like the scene in Lord of the Rings, where Gondor summons help for Rohan!! So far, the sweet smelling rose in the image is doing well. ^=^ Thank you for taking the time to look.

I get 'green fingers' from my aphid control! But in a year when there is a wasps nest near, no problem, they seem to snack on them like little sweeties! A beautiful pic!!!
