Today being the fourth of July, and I an American, thought it most appropriate to celebrate this wonderful birthday. The Declaration of Independence was unanimously declared by all 13 states on July 4th, 1776 part of the declaration : "We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable rights, that among these are life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness." And to round it off our National Anthem All four verses, did you know there were four verses? We only sing one. The Lyrics came from a poem titled "Defense of Fort McHenry" by Francis Scott Key in 1814 after witnessing the bombardment of Fort McHenry. The Star Spangled Banner Written by Francis Scott Key 1814 Oh, say, can you see, by the dawn's early light, What so proudly we hail'd at the twilight's last gleaming? Whose broad stripes and bright stars, thro' the perilous fight, O'er the ramparts we watch'd, were so gallantly streaming? And the rockets' red glare, the bombs bursting in air, Gave proof thro' the night that our flag was still there. O say, does that star-spangled banner yet wave O'er the land of the free and the home of the brave? On the shore dimly seen thro' the mists of the deep, Where the foe's haughty host in dread silence reposes, What is that which the breeze, o'er the towering steep, As it fitfully blows, half conceals, half discloses? Now it catches the gleam of the morning's first beam, In full glory reflected, now shines on the stream: 'T is the star-spangled banner: O, long may it wave O'er the land of the free and the home of the brave! And where is that band who so vauntingly swore That the havoc of war and the battle's confusion A home and a country should leave us no more? Their blood has wash'd out their foul footsteps' pollution. No refuge could save the hireling and slave From the terror of flight or the gloom of the grave: And the star-spangled banner in triumph doth wave O'er the land of the free and the home of the brave. O, thus be it ever when freemen shall stand, Between their lov'd homes and the war's desolation; Blest with vict'ry and peace, may the heav'n-rescued land Praise the Pow'r that hath made and preserv'd us a nation! Then conquer we must, when our cause. it is just, And this be our motto: "In God is our trust" And the star-spangled banner in triumph shall wave O'er the land of the free and the home of the brave! Cheri took my mom to see the parade, I think mom is getting a little worn out by all of the adventuring of late. Hopefully the rains stays away, at least today, otherwise the fireworks will end up being postponed to tomorrow, making it a late night and early to rise for work on Monday. HAPPY BIRTHDAY AMERICA!!!!!! My thanks to all of our veterans, past, present and future, were it not for your willingness to serve, and personal sacrifice, there would be no cause for celebration today, it is you we owe for this. Hope you all have a safe and wonderful 4th of July celebration, please take good care.

It's cloudy and rainy here in Chicago, so seeing an actual celebration that isn't getting rained out is great. Happy Independence Day to you too! Hopefully you're having fun! I really like this shot. Whenever I see guys marching, their legs always look like scissors.

Excellent!!!! We have burn bans on. I have noticed less traffic at the fireworks stand than usual. I had to work today so will probably watch them on TV. Happy 4th!!! God Bless All

Congratulations on your Independence Day celbrations, Cheri. Nice to see your veterans / American Legion marching proudly down Main Street. One day, Scotland might again be independent. At least our Scottish Parliament agreed to give us St. Andrew's Day, November 30, to be our National Day. Our Westminster Prime Minister, himself a Scot, and son-of-the-manse, did not like the idea. It smacked too much of Scottish independent thought, and might frighten the big wigs in the CIty of London financial district, I suppose. Much good they did for Britain, far less Scotland. Unfortunately the St. Andrew's Day holiday is only optional and most employers ignored it. It was not in addition to our dearth of public holidays, but the employers couldn't be bothered even asking their employees, if they wanted to exchange another for it. Nothing new after the debacle of their 'Credit Crunch' then .. ! ;o)Cease rant. Have a nice time. Warm regards, from a sunny Glasgow ( still unseasonal ... ;o) ), John.
