Hiboux: One of my four rescued friends
"If you talk to the animals they will talk with you and you will know each other.
If you do not talk to them you will not know them, and what you do not know you will fear. Ă‚Â What one fears one destroys."
--Chief Dan George (1899 - 1981)
The avatar I use is a photo of a kitten who adopted me last fall. She came to my door one night, hungry and cold and in need of shelter. I had already adopted a rescued dog and 2 fostered cats (I have a friend who works in animal rescue), but another friend told me that being chosen by a cat was a special thing, so, here she is in her new home. I called her Hiboux (French for owl for those who don't already know), since she reminded me of a snowy owl tapping on my door.
Sorry I need a new digital camera. The one used for this photo was one of the first ones ever made that utilizes a floppy disc. I am attached to it, but thought it was more important to show off my kitty here since this is merely my "home" page and not a display of my digital art. I'll update it as soon as I can.
I live in the US Midwest, have a degree in landscape design, compete nationally (only in the US so far)Ă‚Â in dancesport, and choreographed contemporary dance for over a decade. I've been writing since childhood--mainly for my own amusement. A few of my poems have been published in obscure places and I used to write many interviews which were published online for years. None of my novels have met the public eye yet and that's OK because for me "the joy is in the journey." Ă‚Â
I'm hooked on creating digital art. I stumbled upon it when I worked online for 11 years as a content editor and became intrigued watching the medium grow. 3D art feels like a good niche for me combining movement, landscape, my love of nature, history, art, technology, myth and storytelling . . . Ă‚Â I love to experiment with software and hope to continue to grow as an artist.Ă‚Â I'm in awe of many of the beautiful works shared on this site. I've also begun a blog here called "A Novelist's Adventures in Digital Art" where I list useful sites and tools I find along the way:

I consider myself a beginner at digital art. We all have to start somewhere. I try to encourage other creatives on all skill levels as often as I have time. I learn a lot from the artists IĂ‚Â favorite here and even from private emails with tips if you feel so inclined. I dont allow ratings in my gallery anymore, because I don't believe in "grading" art--it doesn't fit into my personal philosophy. That said, I do often admire many of the talented professional artists and am happy when they are showcased on the art charts here and feel the rating system--though it has flaws--is important to honor excellence.Ă‚Â Ă‚Â I do appreciate any comments and appreciate constructive criticism and suggestions.

Okay Cathy you got me on this one as I love the image and the gals here but even more than that I love your sense of humor behind the art

It's great to be back, as Groucho Marx said in Duck Soup. I love these characters, Cathy. They have a very intriguing naughtiness about them... in the mischievous sense. I also love the palette - always been a fan of red and black and it works very well for this particular image. Looks like you're on a roll at the moment. Those black lace gloves are fantastic... and yes... another stunning self-made background. Very well done.

I've frozen my account and I'm wearing full body armour (with extra thickness on the neck), but there's nothing I can do to protect myself from these ladies' charm offensive... Vonderful vamps, Cathy - I'll be sad to see the end of your obsession.

agree with dave about the sense of humor, and appreciate everyone's response. This is your sense of subtle humor to a tee. All three are dangerous, but they look very relaxed (in an intense sort of way), the front lady looks at us out of the sides of her eyes (devious!), and basically they look like they're not even swayed by what they do, they're just 'doing' it, and kind of swaying the way a singing trio would. (You ever see "The Triplets of Belleville"? That came to mind for some reason!) (It's wonderful animation, if you haven't seen it...) You've handled the red gowns well, making them light as well as satin; the gloves are a fine touch; the sway of the left-two ladies is nice counterpoint to the front lady; and the way the back lady is resting her arm on the other lady's hair (or maybe fixing it) is a fine touch too. As is the abstract black cat. Your background is not as amorphous as the previous one, but more a traditional ornamental design (you know William Morris? Not the agency! the designer from the 19th C...Well this could be one of his designs). And the red-highlights make it seem on fire. And (yes, I'm not finished—you thought you'd get away with a short comment?), I notice a teeeeeny ornamental border too (you always put in design if you can!). A class act, lots of fun, and with very deadpan faces too. Nice work Cathy. I think I'll stay home today, thanks. I need my blood if that's ok...

This is a great image. I don't think it takes a vamp to drain your wallet but then that's another story, right?

I really do like the play on words and concept here, it is a fun and interesting twist. Cool series you've got going

Oooh .. lots of fun doing this one, wasn't it? I love that they aren't the traditional vampires with fangs showing and blood dripping from their lips .. but just as we sometimes read in stories, pretty and desirable in the eyes of their victims, deadly assets not showing until the crucial time. Wonderfully done Cathy!
