Description
Captured 7/4/09, very early in the morning, 1.43 miles from my residence.
I came across this scene at virtually the same moment the shadow of the top railing of the fence of a local high school was bisecting the adjacent sidewalk. Sometimes we get lucky. Call it serendipity at its purest.
These two are the best of eleven pictures I snapped of this solar event.
The top shot is looking west, the bottom shot looking east after I had walked to the other end. Actually, the bottom photo shows the shadow at its most equal division of sidewalk.
I had to walk and work fast because the sun -- or to be more accurate -- the revolution of the earth, waits for no one.
The fence/shadow gives the infinite illusion of being a zillion miles long, but it only runs less than a quarter mile, .215-miles/.346-kms to be exact, according to my trusty pedometer.
Tallyho.

Well caught, Harry! I like the mental pic you evoke of yourself beetling along a fair lick to get the pic!

the best! Because you capture these so purely, with no other distractions (which probably takes patience, waiting for people & other creatures to get out of the way), we really get the pure event. And your pov seems nearly parallel between the 2, the proportions are nearly even; it really gets the sweep of the shadow, both ways. A small event to most, but to a good eye, a major thing: Love these kinds of shots in your gallery, they're pure and right at us. Loved it when I first saw it and love it now too.
