Hi, I'm Marilyn. Â I've been posting here on RR for a few years now and thought it was time to update my profile. Â It's been wonderful learning so much from the amazingly talented people here. Â I've had the chance to meet many in person and some have become great and good friends. Â Starting with a Kodak Brownie camera when I was about 7 or 8, moving up to Instamatics, Polaroids, then the Pentax K1000 that really got me on the way, I've been looking at the world thru a lens for a long time. Â Got the bug honestly; my dad was a photographer and gave me the gene!! Â Digital changed the world and I jumped in with both feet. Â You would've gone thru 100's of rolls of film in one day the way we can shoot and delete all day long. Â Progess...it can be awesome sometimes.
At any rate, RR rocks, the talent is over the top and I'm just gonna keep on shooting!!
Thanks for looking and keep those cameras rollin'!!
peace.....marilyn

Great in b/w. Good work :)

This is stunning! truly a stellar shot. I love the clean lines and the vibrancy of the b/w.

I like it too. It almost looks like a stage setting. B&W takes it to another dimension.

Excellent!

I agree with Bill. Very theatrical, like a setting for an Alma-Tadema painting!

I was captivated by the thumbnail - the composition, the dramatic contrasts - and I eagerly checked to see who the artist was as I clicked it open. Imagine my surprise when I saw YOU had done this!! Sheesh! I can easily imagine this in color - it's probably a nice photograph. But in b&w ... kak!!! This is in a class by itself! (Carin is right - the only reason I'm not calling you right now is because it's 2:30 in the morning!)

Looks great in B/W. Adds a real sense of depth to the photo...often time lost in color. Nice work, as always.

very nice!

Excellent work, the B&W calls attention to those lovely arches. I like the light quality, too, sort of an overcast day feeling. Nice!

Excellent work! Good black and white photography seems to be a dying art. Nice to see this type of work here!

Stellar POV employed and striking ambiance in this fotograph, young lady! Good gracious, although of man's creation, the grand arches and other objects look virtually surreal, Maz! It looks like one of the scenes out of a fantasy movie depicting a bit of heaven, right before you meet the Big Guy.

Well done and a keen eye to know that it would work so well as a B&W. Looks like an Art Deco era movie set. Dana

They look great as monochome some photographs and this one is no exception you achieved some good tones and it also has that nostalgic look to it! well done.

perfect in b&w, and I hope you do more like it! I don't know if you saw it, but there's a famous & impossible film called "Last Year at Marienbad". I don't recommend it even though I do; it's a typical "existential" vision of rich people not connecting, out of the French New Wave. But the cinematography is exquisite b&w work, and this could be a still from it. It's also something out of the surrealist painters like Dali and de Chirico. (There's a famous song about Dali: "Hello Dali, yes hello Dali...") (sorry) Anyway, it's pure surrealism, lots of real things in a totally strange configuration, even though this place actually exists—I saw your link—and the combo is as clear as reality and as strange as a dream. And because of your angle, you got a lot of the things that are actually there, all juxtaposed. More please! It's scintillating and fun and a real b&w surreal image!

Hmmm...looks like something in a Nemaean city, maybe the city of Bes, only it isn't because I can't see Ilya stalking around the area in an intense brood over what Dorianna is up to. Ah...all of that is to say that I love this image! You have a brilliant eye for color, but also for form and contrast. It's wonderful, and yeah, it's inspiring a bit more of that Nemaean stuff that comes oozing out of my literary pores! Great work. I love the way you provide such a strong and evocative glimpse into another world; this world, undoubtedly, but filtered through a very human eye. Fantastic work. Ilya, Aleo, Dorianna, Arkady and company thank you for sparking yet another bout of creativity that will undoubtedly work into the continuation of their convoluted tale.

Very haunting and mysterious. Definitely a euro-style in the image, the gradation adding that touch of foreboding. Well done.

Very well seen and presented. Thank you.
