Description

The Giant Kingfisher or for the technical folks - Ceryle Maxima. This fellow is the largest of the kingfishers (46 cm) and I was very lucky to get this image a couple of years ago in the Kruger National Park here in South Africa! He was sitting on the railing of a bridge long enough for me to shoot off just one photo! It was still done on film - so I was very lucky that it was a half decent image! Thank you for popping in and for your very valued comments and favs on my waterfall upload of yesterday! Stay well!! Hugs, Carin xx

Great shot. This is interesting...he has the same colors and patterns on his body that the Red-bellied Woodpeckers have around here.

I've never seen one of these - the coloring so different from the King Fishers I know from around here. What an exciting find. You certainly see so many exotic things over there!

Stellar profile portrait of the little big fella, Carin! It should be called Ceryle "Minima," if actual size relationship with its fellow avians is concerned. It kind of reminds me of Woody Woodpecker, though not as colorful. And, terrific contrast and superb work converting the film image to digital.
