Hi, I'm Marilyn.  I've been posting here on RR for a few years now and thought it was time to update my profile.  It's been wonderful learning so much from the amazingly talented people here.  I've had the chance to meet many in person and some have become great and good friends.  Starting with a Kodak Brownie camera when I was about 7 or 8, moving up to Instamatics, Polaroids, then the Pentax K1000 that really got me on the way, I've been looking at the world thru a lens for a long time.  Got the bug honestly; my dad was a photographer and gave me the gene!!  Digital changed the world and I jumped in with both feet.  You would've gone thru 100's of rolls of film in one day the way we can shoot and delete all day long.  Progess...it can be awesome sometimes.
At any rate, RR rocks, the talent is over the top and I'm just gonna keep on shooting!!
Thanks for looking and keep those cameras rollin'!!
peace.....marilyn

Oh wow Marilyn - what a stunning perspective of this awesome bridge! I just love the depth you have created! And what a history... remarkable survival of this manmade structure!!! :)

One tough old structure there to survive flooding. I especially like the B/W imagery. Brings out the character of the bridge.

Amazing structure!

Yes, I'm on the "awesome POV" wagon too...great view!

Great bridge shot...the flood stories are spectacular...particular 30 ton logs shooting around like toothpicks in raging rivers.

Ultra great POV employed to capture the deep perspective and awesomeness of this imposing structure, Marilyn! Although bruised and battered thru the ages, there it stands, all proud and venerable. Being from perpetually drought-stricken Southern California, it's hard to believe that water could reach all the way up to the bottom of the roadway.

Excellent image. I love the perspective. Funny you should mention the Eel River. Several years ago Mrs Sea Dog and I stopped at the Eel River Brewery for a pint or two and a little snack before heading to Ferndale. Over the weekend I picked up a six pack of Eel River IPA which got me thinking about those times.

Works well in B/W..enjoyed reading your links..have been through there on several bike trips but have never researched the local history..

Amazing that it has been through all that you described and is still standing. All that and look how simple these old bridges were built. Dana

Yup ... I'm with the "great POV" folks, as well! Nice angle! And I notice nobody even batted an eye at yet another b&w from you!!

lol tara, re "another b&w from you"...the angle is dramatic and you caught a good portion of all that wonderful growth in the right corner; and the tonal quality is both soft and nicely textured; and the whole shot & all the grays have a nice grainy feel to them, almost as if this is a very old shot or a shot from memory...By shooting it so low, you really emphasize how high that water must go. Harry said it best, coming from S.California. A fine piece, and nice to see more b&w from you, remembering that most of photography for the first 100 years was b&w, and some of the great masterpieces still are from that vast group...

Oooh, I like this! You do black and white as well as you do intense and lively color. It's funny, maybe because I'm familiar with your eye, so to speak, I can sense the interplay of color here. Your black and white work is just as stunning and engaging. And yeah, the POV rocks too; you show such a sense of scale here, and you even capture quite a lot of openness too. THAT is quite a feat. Again, this is superb work!
