Description
Captured 5/5/09, very early in the morning, exactly .55 miles/.885 kilometers from my place.
With her current uploads, Denise/MrsRatbag once again reminds me of subject matter, all but forgotten, that lies dormant in my voluminous files.
These shots were taken looking up at the north wall of our local Recreation Center and Sports Complex. The blocks are not only of interest in their repetition and perspective but also in their amorphous lighting effects.
The brick wall also adds perspective to the scene.
Tallyho and toodles.

WOW!! What an interesting way of decorative architecture Harry! The light is superb and you have done a stellar job with photographing it! Well done! :)

Good pics Harry. I thought these were a thing of the past but Pittsburgh Glass Block Company has all kind of recommendations for remodeling with them today. For example they let light in but keep bad guys out better than standard windows (basements and garages for example). No, I'm not being paid by the glass block company! LOL.

Ooh, I love these...glass block walls have always seemed so wonderful to me! These shots are great, they showcase the particular beauties of this style!

These glass 'blocks' reminds me of when I was little for some reason. There must have been a lot of this around back in the __'s. :P Love the POV in the first one Harry; makes me think I should broaden my photoshoot ideas a bit.

Very cool lines and POV! Great work Harry!

COOL!!! Brings me back several years, yet makes me wonder why. They let light in wonderfully, are pretty much self insulated. They're not used where a view is desired, yet perfect for privacy. Why did we stop using these?????

Some nice POV's in these...

Excelent pov on the first shot Harry and a color is so gorgeous too. I always wanna to have some glassblock in my house but unfortunately never got it.

I've always loved your glass blocks and brick shots, they've been a favorite of mine. And I forgot to say in my last comment (on 1100) that one of the things you do wonderfully is montage. Here you have motion from a high tapered shot to close up of the angled blocks, to a head-on corner shot (I presume of different blocks, since they're not green tinted). Big bold stuff, very direct, and a lot of fun. I like Bill's comment about their value (and that he's not a paid spokesman, lol). And they seem pretty well kept up, because I don't see too much grime and soot on them. Fine work all around, Harry. I really like this series.

Wonderful combination of colors, textures and geometry. The top one is fabulous, especially the effect created when scrolling downwards and the blocks get larger and larger! Great work!

Excellent photos with fantastic details. Superb POV on the first image.

My uncle used to install glass block windows. He had his own business. I haven't thought about uncle Jim for a long, long time.....I wonder if my aunt Dee Dee ever remarried???? Hmmm, I don't even know where she is anymore, sad. Sorry went off on a tangent. Combination of excel driven madness and sleep deprivation. Back to the photos, nice shots, I love the way the light hits them, and yes as bmac62 pointed out they do let light in but keep bad guys out. If you basement is water proof and these are done right, they keep water out too.

Interesting perspective !!!
