Description

Here is a new one for me. A very small (3-4mm) Frit Fly (Chloropidae). It was resting on my lemon tree this morn. Great colors on this one. "They are attracted to the eyes, sometimes are called eye gnats. They are vectors of yaws and pink eye." -Bug Guide Net Thanks for looking. -Bruce

I had to find a conversion chart to see just how small this fellow is. That makes this image even more impressive, besides the quality! Great shot, Bruce!

Superb. What a garish but beautiful creature. Ah, but insects have never been known for subtlety when it comes to...well...fashion sense. I love the shine of this critter's carapace. Hmmm...they're attracted to the eyes. That's a weird piece of information...who would have thought that fruitflies were drawn to...eyes...I'd think they were more interested in...well...fruit.
